Abnormal AI is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure to help build the Federal Platform layer underpinning our GovCloud environment. This is a platform infrastructure role first: you will design and evolve the core infrastructure, deployment foundations, and platform patterns that make GovCloud behave more like a thin extension of our commercial platform, with less drift and stronger operational leverage over time. As the first engineer focused on Federal Platform, you will help define the charter for the team, provide mentorship and guidance on platform-oriented topics in the GovCloud environment, and build the paved roads that make Federal Operations and application teams more self-sufficient as we scale the federal business.
What you will do- Lead the build-out and evolution of Abnormal’s FedRAMP High cloud infrastructure, translating security and compliance requirements into reliable, auditable AWS implementations for the GovCloud environment.
- Design and maintain reusable Terraform modules, infrastructure patterns, and platform standards that make Gov changes safer, more repeatable, and easier for FedOps engineers to operate.
- Drive sound architectural decisions across compute, networking, and service design, balancing compliance, operational simplicity, and parity with commercial where it delivers the most value.
- Partner closely with FedRAMP, compliance, and other engineering teams to reduce environment drift, improve deployment readiness, and close high-impact gaps between Gov and commercial.
- Raise the operational bar for GovCloud through better monitoring, alerting, documentation, and incident readiness, with a focus on reducing toil and improving long-term maintainability.
- Serve as a technical leader for FedOps by mentoring engineers, guiding implementation quality, and helping the team adopt AI-assisted workflows that speed up delivery and onboarding.
- 7+ years of experience operating public cloud environments, with deep hands-on AWS expertise
- Strong, production-grade Terraform experience. Comfortable building and debugging IaC modules from scratch, not just using existing configurations
- Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes workloads in production
- Experience working in or building toward compliance-constrained environments (FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar)
- Comfort reading and writing Python, Go, or similar scripting languages. You don't need to ship full applications, but should be able to read, adapt, and write infrastructure automation scripts
- Demonstrated AI-forward mindset. Active use of AI in engineering workflows beyond as a coding assistant
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status (required for FedRAMP environment access)
- Direct FedRAMP Moderate or High implementation experience
- Experience building developer enablement infrastructure: cloud code integration, local agent setup, or CI/CD pipelines
- Experience using AI/LLM tooling in production engineering contexts
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or equivalent)

What We Do
The Abnormal Security platform protects enterprises from targeted email attacks. Abnormal Behavior Technology (ABX) models the identity of both employees and external senders, profiles relationships and analyzes email content to stop attacks that lead to account takeover, financial damage and organizational mistrust. Though one-click, API-based Office 365 and G Suite integration, Abnormal sets up in minutes and does not disrupt email flow. Abnormal Security was founded in 2018 by CEO Evan Reiser, CTO Sanjay Jeyakumar, Head of Machine Learning Jeshua Bratman, and Founding Engineers Abhijit Bagri and Dmitry Chechik. The team previously built behavioral profiling and machine learning technologies at Twitter, Google and Pinterest that are being applied to solve a problem that costs organizations $1 billion per year, according to the FBI. The Abnormal Security platform stops targeted phishing, business email compromise and account takeover attacks that have never been seen before.
