About SewerAI Corporation
SewerAI is transforming underground infrastructure management through AI-powered inspection and risk analysis. Our platform helps contractors, engineering firms, and utilities unlock valuable insights from sewer inspection data—turning hours of manual video review into actionable intelligence in minutes. After doubling our customer base over the past year, we’re now entering an exciting phase of accelerated growth.
About the RoleWe're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to develop Pioneer Desktop alongside the Truck team lead. It's an Electron app: our React web app, Pioneer, runs inside a desktop shell that talks to the truck's hardware. The operator drives the camera, records video, reads distance and incline from the crawler controller, codes defects to NASSCO standards, and syncs the inspection to the cloud once the truck has signal.
Trucks are a hard place to run software. They run on hardware we don't choose, from many manufacturers, often with no internet connection. The operator isn't a software person and has a crew waiting. If a recording fails, someone drives back to the manhole.
Working with the Truck team lead, you'll contribute across the desktop runtime: hardware integrations, video recording, offline storage, sync, crash diagnostics, and the release pipeline that gets software updates onto trucks safely.
What You'll Work OnWorking alongside the Truck team lead, you'll:
Connect Pioneer Desktop to inspection cameras, truck equipment and sensors
Make video recording reliable and inspection data safe, even without internet access
Improve cloud sync, app stability and software updates for trucks in the field
Work with Product, Design and the web team to make operators' workflows simpler
Help resolve customer issues and visit trucks and hardware vendors to understand how the software is used
You have 5+ years building production software, including real time on desktop or hardware-connected applications.
You've shipped a desktop app (Electron, Tauri, Qt, WPF or native Windows) to users you can't SSH into. Auto-update, code signing and crash reporting are familiar ground.
Your TypeScript is strong, and you understand the Electron process model: main, renderer, preload and utility processes, and what belongs in each.
You've talked to hardware: serial protocols, byte framing, checksums, flaky USB and drivers that behave differently on every machine.
You can debug on Windows. You know your way around file locks, path and locale quirks, Event Viewer, Process Monitor and PowerShell.
You design for failure. You assume the disk fills up, the network drops, and Windows kills the process halfway through a write.
You can take a log from a customer you'll never meet and work out what happened.
You have strong product fundamentals: you understand user needs, weigh tradeoffs, and focus on solving the right problem for operators.
You explain technical problems in plain language to operators and field supervisors, and you listen when they describe a bug in their own words.
You follow through. When a truck in another state can't record, you work with the Truck team lead and your teammates to investigate the issue and see the fix through.
You use AI coding tools every day to optimize your workflow.

What We Do
SewerAI is transforming the way utilities maintain & rehab their underground infrastructure. Through the use of Artificial Intelligence, SewerAI's AutoCode™ tools automatically detect conditions in pipeline inspection data from CCTV crawler, digital side scanners, drones, GoPros, & jetter cameras. SewerAI’s web-based platform, Pioneer™ enables contractors, utilities, & engineers to upload data, review condition reports, send & receive submittals, & collaborate on capital planning like never before. Based in Walnut Creek, CA, SewerAI was founded in Q1 of 2019 & is a funded early stage startup. It’s staff & advisors posses a combined total of over 150+ years performing condition assessments in sewer collection systems, and with tens of millions of linear feet of sewer data under management. SewerAI is committed the solutions it creates are relevant, useful, & integrate seamlessly with existing hardware, software, & industry standards for condition assessment deliverables.
