Making family care possible. At Abby Care, we are tackling one of the most important and unsolved challenges of our time: family caregiving.
Over 50 million Americans are family caregivers for loved ones without pay, tools, or support. Our mission is clear and ambitious: to train and employ family caregivers so they can get paid for the care they already provide at home.
Abby Care is building a tech-powered, family-first care platform to efficiently deliver care, improve health outcomes, and provide the best-in-class experience nationwide.
We are rapidly expanding our mission and looking for passionate team members to join. Abby Care has partnered with leading insurance plans, healthcare providers, and community organizations. We’re supported by top, mission-driven VCs to empower families throughout the country. You’ll join a high-caliber team of leaders, operators, and builders with backgrounds at Uber, Scale AI, DoorDash, Dropbox, Meta, and more.
The RoleWe’re looking for an experienced and driven individual to join us as a Software Engineer, Mobile (iOS & Android). You will report to the VP, Head of Engineering. This is a full-time opportunity based in San Francisco, CA (4 days in-person).
Abby Care is redefining family caregiving with AI-powered products and support. In this role, you’ll lead our mobile app development across iOS and Android and ensure the experience is delightful, easy-to-use, and robust for family caregivers. Our users are often not tech-savvy and may use the app in homes, facilities, or on the go—sometimes with spotty connectivity. You’ll build for real-world conditions, define a testing framework that reflects those scenarios, and ship improvements that families can rely on every day.
Key Responsibilities:Lead mobile app development end-to-end. You will take full ownership of the mobile development lifecycle, from concept to delivery. This includes shaping technical design, implementing core features, improving performance and stability, and managing release cycles for both iOS and Android.
Build a caregiver-first experience that is intuitive and resilient. You will design and implement user flows that are simple, guided, and forgiving—optimized for non-technical users. You will ensure the app works reliably in low-connectivity environments through offline-first and degraded-mode patterns (e.g., caching, sync, retries, conflict handling) and careful performance tuning.
Define and implement mobile testing frameworks grounded in real-world usage. You will establish a testing strategy and methodology that reflects how caregivers actually use the app (device variability, intermittent networks, backgrounding, interruptions, accessibility needs). This includes automated testing, regression coverage, monitoring/telemetry, and release quality gates to continuously improve app reliability.
Partner with cross-functional teams to solve real-world problems. You will collaborate with operations, clinical, compliance, product, and design to build solutions that work in real caregiving workflows. You will be a critical voice in articulating technical tradeoffs and helping the team make product decisions that advance our mission.
Raise the bar on mobile engineering excellence. You will set standards for code quality, architecture, observability, and security on mobile. You’ll contribute to scalable patterns for feature development, data handling, and API integration, while keeping quality and user trust at the center.
5–7 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful experience building and shipping mobile apps.
Experience developing for iOS and/or Android in production (native or cross-platform), including release management and debugging issues in the wild.
Strong understanding of mobile fundamentals: performance, reliability, lifecycle, background execution, local storage, and networking.
Experience designing for real-world constraints such as intermittent connectivity, device variability, and accessibility needs.
Experience defining and implementing testing strategy for mobile: automated tests, CI, regression frameworks, and quality gates.
Experience integrating mobile apps with backend APIs and modern authentication patterns.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
Experience with product development is preferred.
Experience in the healthcare industry and at startups is preferred.
Experience with offline-first or sync-heavy applications (queueing, retries, conflict resolution).
Familiarity with crash/performance monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog).
Experience with mobile CI/CD (e.g., Fastlane, GitHub Actions) and feature flagging/rollout strategies.
