About this role 

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer to join our Machine Learning Services team at Udemy. This team is at the forefront of crafting real-time interfaces for various ML applications, from conventional machine learning applications to cutting-edge Generative AI (GenAI) solutions. You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and data teams to enhance and personalize the user interface and experience, emphasising front-end technologies.

What you'll be doing

  • Propose and implement initial technical solutions to enhance user interface scalability, performance, and experience.
  • Solve challenging, high-impact frontend technical challenges, continually refactoring for robustness and scalability.
  • Expand the team's skillset with frontend skills to enable faster production of new AI features.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of user-facing features, actively participating in agile processes for sprint planning and delivering within two-week cycles.
  • Cultivate a team culture prioritising quality, scalability, and innovation in front-end development.
  • Mentor other engineers, providing guidance in frontend technology best practices and development strategies.
  • Execute full-stack development primarily focusing on frontend technologies such as React, ensuring high standards through thorough code reviews and post-launch monitoring.
  • Collaborate on critical projects, bringing expertise in front-end design.

What you’ll have

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on front-end technologies.
  • Demonstratable motivation for achieving results and bringing forward impactful front-end solutions.
  • Ability to guide and coach other engineers, fostering team success.
  • Experience in front-end architecture and design for distributed user-centric applications.
  • Strong proficiency in React and modern web development frameworks and technologies.
  • Experience with backend technologies in Python, Java, Kotlin, or other similar languages
  • Experience with cloud platforms and technologies, including AWS, Docker, or Kubernetes.
  • A basic understanding of machine learning concepts and their application in front-end interfaces is a plus.
