About the Role
The Messaging Platform team is at the core of Attentive’s product, delivering high-volume, time-sensitive, personalized messages across SMS/RCS, Email, and Push. We build a resilient messaging platform that sends messages accurately, compliantly, and at scale, with outcome tracking that powers deliverability reporting, replay, and operational insight.
As a Software Engineer, you will design and develop the evolution of distributed systems that power Attentive’s messaging infrastructure.
What You'll Accomplish
- Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant systems that reliably deliver billions of messages weekly across SMS/RCS, email, and push channels
- Understand the needs of the messaging platform and proactively design solutions that support growth, new channels, and evolving compliance requirement
- Serve as a technical collaborator across engineering, product, infrastructure partnering with teams to deliver high-quality, high-impact platform capabilities
- Contribute to company-wide engineering initiatives, including platform reliability, infrastructure modernization, and operational excellence
- Improve system observability, performance, and resiliency, reducing operational risk and improving customer trust
Your Expertise
- 3+ years of software engineering experience using languages like Java, Go, or Python.
- Strong understanding of distributed backend services, API development and performance optimization.
- Knowledge of messaging patterns, including experience with streams, queues, idempotency, and robust failure-handling strategies.
- Experience architecting secure, reliable systems and maintaining code quality and system health in production.
- Ability to translate high-level business goals into concrete technical plans and architectural roadmaps.
- Motivated by solving large, complex problems and continuously improving foundational infrastructure.
- Bonus if familiar with TypeScript and React
- Bonus if you have experience developing against messaging APIs for SMS, email, or push notifications (e.g., Twilio, SendGrid, or Firebase).
What We Use
- Our infrastructure runs primarily in Kubernetes hosted in AWS’s EKS
- Infrastructure tooling includes Istio, Datadog, Terraform, CloudFlare, and Helm
- Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, AirFlow, Postgres, and Redis, hosted via AWS
- Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright
- Our automation is driven by custom and open source machine learning models, lots of data and built with Python, Metaflow, HuggingFace 🤗, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Pandas

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000 - $175,000 annually + equity + benefits
