Role Description:
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our Market Voice and Video (MVV) development team. The MVV team owns the core audio and video communication infrastructure within the Symphony app, heavily utilizing WebRTC.
As a senior member of this small, agile team, you won’t just maintain server-side media backend services, you will also drive architectural decisions, mentor team members, and take full ownership of robust, scalable backend systems. We are incredibly passionate about engineering excellence and CI/CD best practices. Responsibilities- Architect & Implement: Lead the design, implementation, and testing of highly scalable server-side microservices utilizing Java (Spring Boot) and TypeScript, ensuring optimal interaction with the broader Symphony ecosystem.
- CI/CD Leadership: Drive and evolve our Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) strategies, keeping Jenkins at the center of our automation pipeline.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product management to define technical requirements and collaborate across engineering teams to execute seamless product integrations.
- System Reliability: Investigate complex production issues or performance bottlenecks.Document thorough failure analyses, post-mortems, and root cause analyses (RCA) to continuously improve platform resilience.
- Mentorship & Quality: Lead constructive, collaborative backend design sessions and code reviews. Elevate the team's engineering standards by mentoring junior and mid-level developers.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience: BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with 7+ years of practical, hands-on experience in production software development.
- Backend Expertise:
- Deep, expert-level proficiency in Java and its ecosystem, with extensive experience building enterprise microservices using the Spring Framework (Spring Boot).
- Professional experience writing clean, scalable backend code in TypeScript (e.g., Node.js ecosystem).
- DevOps & Infrastructure: Strong experience working with containerization, orchestration, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, specifically Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), Terraform, Git, and Jenkins.
- Cloud Proficiency: Proven experience designing, deploying, and maintaining high-availability services within GCP and/or AWS cloud environments.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional proactive communication skills, a highly collaborative mindset, and a proven track record of end-to-end delivery ownership.

Compensation:
- Salary Range: £55,000 - 65,000 base salary per year
