Your mission

As a senior engineer within the Ops Hub at Bitpanda, you will own and drive technically critical, high-impact projects across our payments, compliance and risk infrastructure. You will help build and scale robust, resilient backend systems — from payment-processing services and PSP integrations, to real-time transaction screening, risk-detection pipelines, alerting and case-management tooling — ensuring that as we expand across Europe (and beyond), our infrastructure remains secure, performant, compliant and ready for growth. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders (Payments, Compliance, Fraud & Risk Ops, Finance, etc.), and architect, build and maintain services that safeguard our customers and the platform while enabling seamless growth and localisation.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop scalable, resilient, message-driven services using Java
  • Write clean and future proof code with 80% unit test test coverage, end to end and integration testing before deploying into event driven microservices architecture
  • Optimise payment modules/services to ensure reliability, maintainability, performance and scalability using tools like 
  • Drive innovation by researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in backend development, ensuring our applications remain cutting-edge.
  • Be a technical mentor for junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow and excel in their careers.

Who you are

  • Advanced knowledge and experience of software development using modern frameworks such as Spring Boot, with Java as your main programming language
  • Good understanding of relational and non-relational databases (bonus points for experience with Postgres and MongoDB)
  • Experience creating and maintaining publicly available REST APIs with a keen understanding of performance optimisation and scalability
  • Practical knowledge in using message-oriented middleware as we’re working with event driven microservices (ideally Apache Kafka or ZeroMQ)
  • Good understanding of CI/CD: familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes is ideal but any public cloud experience is fine
