About the RoleWe’re looking for a Software Engineer (not DevOps/SRE) to join the Search Production Engineering team. This role is 100% engineering-focused, writing code daily to modernize internal tools, build new services, and improve the developer experience across Search.
This role is ideal for an experienced software engineer who enjoys:
Greenfield development
Modernizing dated internal tools
Building services end-to-end
Using AI to accelerate workflows and solve operational pain points
Partnering closely with other engineering teams—not as a support function, but as a fellow builder
Design and build new internal tools and services used by Search engineering teams (e.g., revenue monitoring, partner admin tooling, automation frameworks, service-support utilities).
Modernize and rebuild outdated internal applications, sometimes from the ground up.
Integrate AI/LLM-powered capabilities into internal tools where it improves efficiency or insight.
Contribute to cloud migration efforts by creating the tooling and automation that enable teams to move services cleanly.
Write clean, maintainable, well-tested software that scales across a massive engineering organization.
Collaborate with other product and infrastructure engineers to understand pain points and turn them into technical roadmaps.
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and roadmap planning.
3–7 years of professional software engineering experience.
Strong proficiency in a modern programming language (Python, Go, JavaScript preferred.)
Experience building backend services, developer tooling, or internal platforms.
Working knowledge of one or more front-end frameworks (React experience is a plus.)
Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, etc.).Solid understanding of Linux systems and cloud-native development patterns.
Comfortable owning features end-to-end—from design to implementation to rollout.
Clear communication and strong collaboration skills.
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, especially Terraform.
Experience modernizing legacy internal tools or migrating systems to the cloud.
Exposure to ML/LLM APIs and integrating AI into engineering workflows.
Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch).
Understanding of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) or identity/access tooling.
Experience working alongside SREs or DevOps teams.
You consistently deliver high-quality, maintainable code that improves the reliability and operability of our systems.
You can independently take a service or tool from concept to production.
You help drive down manual toil through automation and smart design.
You build trust with peers across engineering and operations

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
