Job DescriptionWe are expanding our Middle East and Africa (MEA) expansion team and are looking for an ambitious and highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join the engineering team.
You will be a core contributor focused on growing our product reach throughout the MEA markets while maintaining low financial crime rates.
Your Role:
Your primary focus would be backend engineering to develop onboarding, KYC, KYB and FinCrime controls tailored for MEA markets.
You will propose and advocate for high-quality technical designs and solutions that are scalable, reliable, and compliant with the diverse regulations across the markets. Beyond delivering clean code, you will participate in code and design reviews, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to expand our presence across the region.
What You'll Be Doing:
Design, build and automate FinCrime controls (AML, Fraud etc) and onboarding flows
Implement integrations with local banks, payment providers, identity/business verification vendors across the region
Participate in code and design reviews within your team, providing constructive feedback to maintain and elevate our engineering standards
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers and compliance officers in our other global offices, to align on product vision and technical implementation for regional expansion
Contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for the MEA domain
A proactive and ambitious mindset, with a desire to take ownership and make a significant impact
Autonomous team player able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality, scalable systems and a strong Product mindset
Deep technical expertise in back-end development and microservices architecture
Experience in designing and building software systems and collaborating on technical designs within a team or domain
Strong ability to provide constructive feedback during code and design reviews
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex challenges
Experience leveraging LLMs (e.g. claude code) to enhance the software development lifecycle.
Nice to Have:
Experience working on payments systems, money movement, financial integrations, Consumer and/or Business onboarding (KYC/KYB) in MEA markets
Java proficiency

We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
