Job DescriptionAbout the role
We are looking for a Software Engineer with a passion for solving problems at scale.
Test Enablement is key to ensuring high quality products for our customers without compromising on speed of delivery. This is not a Quality Assurance team. The team is responsible for designing, building and running a comprehensive testing platform for the entire engineering organisation.
We believe testing is essential in supporting Wise’s Mission by proactively preventing incidents, maximising test coverage whilst minimising human effort. We do this by providing tools and infrastructure that enable us to streamline our four pillars of testing - Test Environment Management, Test Data Management, Test Case Design and Test Automation & Execution. If you enjoy thinking about problems at scale, using data and metrics to drive technical investments, this is the role for you.

We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and help implement the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform tribe.

We’re looking for an engineer with relevant experience who can analyse complex requirements and deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence.
What will you be working on?
Building out the nascent testing platform offering; currently the focus is on understanding the biggest testing blockers experienced by engineers and devising highly automated solutions.
Creating a scalable foundation for our testing platform, integrating with partner teams in Platform Engineering.
Working closely with engineers across the company to help them as they shift towards high levels of automated, repeatable end-to-end testing.
What do you need?
Hands-on Java Software Engineer - you will be building the platform and applying best SDLC practices (development, testing, applications, monitoring).
Strong understanding of Java and relevant application frameworks (e.g. Spring Boot).
Experience of cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP) both in utilising services and how cloud infrastructure works.
Strong understanding of effective testing strategies (microservice testing, chaos engineering, fault-tolerant systems) and a passion for driving improvements in their implementation.
Growth mindset and a desire to learn, teach, and improve skills.
Nice to Have
Experience with CI/CD systems, in particular Spinnaker.
Experience in implementing SRE principles.
Experience with containerisation technology and orchestration platforms e.g. Docker, Kubernetes.
Knowledge of architectural concepts such as microservices, service mesh.
Experience in scaling, building and testing with automation; e.g. including tooling in pipelines instead of manual operational changes.
Good knowledge of observability stacks and tooling (e.g. Grafana, ELK, Prometheus, Tracing).
Good discipline and skill in producing written documentation and diagrams.
Good knowledge of cloud networking and security.
Experience working in a regulated business (e.g. PCI).
Experience of capacity planning as well as performance and load testing.
