Job DescriptionAbout the role
The EU & UK Onboarding Experience team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us redefine the onboarding experience for our European and UK customers. We're building a convenient and scalable onboarding journey that empowers hundreds of thousands of customers while staying fully aligned with local regulatory standards.
Our mission is to make the onboarding journey for personal and business customers effortless and frustration-free. By building custom flows and collecting only essential information, we streamline the process while building robust defenses against financial crime. This allows us to scale Europe smarter, not harder. We're automating information collection and review to accelerate onboarding for our customers and enable the company to grow seamlessly without needing to expand our servicing teams proportionally.
Join us to help shape the future of our onboarding experience.
How we work
For everything we do, we keep our customers' needs in mind. To provide the best experience for businesses, we prioritise projects using deep research based on the data, collect the feedback from customers and learn from our mistakes.
At Wise, we believe in independent teams where we define our priorities ourselves and everyone can come up with ideas and suggestions.
What will you be doing
- You’ll design and build highly available, robust distributed backend systems. This includes:
- Improving our Know Your Customer (KYC) flows to provide the best possible onboarding experience for our customers.
- Creating scalable solutions for verification methods.
- Designing and implementing onboarding initiatives that adapt to regional needs.
- Participating in product roadmapping and strategy sessions with the product management team.
- Owning a technical roadmap to ensure that our application is maintained to high standards.
- Translating product requirements into technical specifications.
- Ensuring code quality, consistency, and maintainability through code reviews and best practices.
- Actively collaborating with other teams and leading projects from the beginning till the release.
What do you need?
- Experience of Java or other JVM based language, experience with Spring framework and deep understanding of JDBC and database internals.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Distributed and Concurrent Systems
- Experience with machine learning basics (data pipelines, feature engineering, recall/precision, familiarity with machine learning systems in production) is a huge plus
- A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points
- Being able to work independently on customer problems is a key to success - you take responsibility and end-to-end ownership of your projects: drive and own them to make sure we hit the goals we want to achieve
- Close collaboration with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, engineers and other product teams is a must have and is something to expect to happen on a daily basis.
- Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audience
- Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas
- You enjoy writing testable code and believe in Test Driven Development
- You believe in and follow best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback.
