We’re redefining what it means to be connected to your customer, giving everyone on the product team fast and easy access to customer insights at any point in the development lifecycle.

Founded in 2017, Dovetail’s team is 100+ and growing across our offices in Sydney and San Francisco. We’re seeking ambitious problem solvers from a diverse range of backgrounds, who are desired for their experience, passionate about their craft, and excited about the work we’re undertaking. If this sounds like you, read on…

One of the key pillars to our success is a highly efficient go-to-market model where anyone who wants to understand their customers can adopt, use, and scale Dovetail without any barriers or friction. Our growth to date has been driven by a product-led strategy where an innovative and intuitive product combined with word-of-mouth and an engaged community of thousands of users have seen us expand to organizations like Shopify, GitLab, Canva, Atlassian.
The Growth team owns the self-service business, working cross-functionally to identify the biggest customer problems they can solve and then executing the most impactful improvements for our customers and business. Their tasked with growing our free user base, driving activation, adoption and conversion, making it simple to expand to new products and use cases, and exploring novel ways to build customer education and confidence. As an engineer working on Growth, you’ll have real influence over what we work on and make meaningful contributions to ambitious technical and business challenges that impact scaling revenue at a high-growth company.

What you will do

  • Be customer-obsessed. You’ll understand our customers and their journey and pain points to identify optimization opportunities to drive scalable growth. You take a holistic view across the customer lifecycle, and you get energy from creating delightful, cohesive experiences that drive business outcomes.
  • Deliver high-quality and impactful software. You’ll partner closely with your Engineering manager, engineer, product and design team to ship high-leverage features and ideas that are massive force-multipliers for our business.
  • Think strategically to optimize for impact. You’ll need to think strategically through business opportunities, customer needs, and technical challenges to focus on the highest-leverage ideas. You’ll leverage data to identify areas where improvements can be made, and use this to inform the projects you work on.
  • You’ll collaborate with your team to sweat the details. You’ll share our passion for quality and you’ll be involved in practices and rituals like code review, pair programming, design sparring, planning, retrospectives, and more.
  • Foster a culture of pragmatism. You’ll maintain and foster a pragmatic approach to software development whilst also working with senior engineers in the establishment of detailed guidelines and standards for product development processes based on industry best practices and your experience.

What you'll bring

  • Extensive experience building SaaS products. You’ll have hands-on exposure to building the frontend and backend of web products with technologies like TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
  • A working understanding of high-growth B2B SaaS products. You’re passionate about building products, startups, and businesses, have an understanding of product-led growth strategies and ideally have seen their implementation before.
  • Experience managing software projects. You’ll have the ability to own the delivery of complex features, break down requirements and provide reasonable estimates.
  • You are pragmatic and flexible. Like your new teammates, you’re used to doing what’s necessary to get the job done. You’ll need to be comfortable with ambiguity, be resourceful to solve problems, and be able to adjust to shifting deadlines and project goals.
  • Excited by the numbers and driven by impact. It’s not about new tech or features in growth but the business outcomes, you are excited about the team's ability to affect change on key business metrics.
  • You thrive in ambiguity. The growth team works across a massive landscape and thus you’re not afraid of context shifting and are able to dive into new areas of the code, and learning new technologies.
  • A great attitude. The right attitude towards a sense of urgency, risk, and uncertainty about the future that comes with working at an early-stage startup. This is an opportunity to be involved in an exciting journey from the very start.

At Dovetail, we’re passionate about building and fostering an environment where every team member feels supported and valued. We celebrate individualism, welcoming everyone to show up as their authentic selves every day. It’s no secret that diversity builds the best teams, large or small, so we highly encourage applications from people who identify as part of an under-represented group.
