How Our Teams Work
- Our team collaborates closely with Product, Design, and other engineers to define and build product features.
- You will contribute across the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, deployment, and operations.
- While your work may be focused on a particular aspect (i.e, the backend of the application for this position), you will still always be expected to think about the big picture and the holistic experience.
- You will do so in an environment where teams own their own domains and drive their roadmaps bottom-up.
- We believe in bottom-up autonomy with top-down alignment. We look for people who want to contribute their ideas to help us continue getting better.
- We also look for people who have a strong sense of teamwork and want to collaborate effectively and support each other.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, and other engineers, including Front-end, Machine Learning, DevOps, and QA engineers.
- Partner with the Product and Design teams to solve functional problems even when the initial answer is not fully defined.
- Creatively solve technical challenges in the face of competing tradeoffs.
- Leverage your knowledge to design, build, and deliver scalable and resilient features.
- Ensure product quality and code quality by writing automated tests and performing thorough code reviews and design reviews.
- Truly own the features you lead — from making sure we are building the right thing, to making sure a feature truly adds customer value after it is done.
- Mentor engineers who are less experienced than you. Be ready to help.
- Be open to learning: We have a highly talented team at Hyperscience, you will have plenty of learning opportunities and will be fully supported to learn and grow.
Key requirements
- Strong common sense, logical thinking, and a solid Computer Science foundation.
- Excellent communication skills and fluency in English: you'll collaborate daily with colleagues across the US and UK.
- Extensive software engineering experience in a professional/production environment; ideally with Python, but candidates who are more fluent in other programming languages (JavaScript/TypeScript, Ruby, etc), and are happy to work with Python, will also be considered.
Nice-to-have (not strictly required):
- Experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Django, React, SQL, and relational databases
- Familiarity with: Workflow orchestration systems, Linux/BSD environments, Docker, Kubernetes, and building complex distributed systems.
- Interest in or experience with full-stack development — we support engineers in working across the stack.
- Using AI to write code is neither required nor discouraged — if it makes you more productive, we support it and provide licenses for relevant tools (Copilot, Gemini, etc).
