Summary Generated by Built In

Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users. From utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios and beyond.

About the role:

As a Senior Frontend Engineer on our Inspection & Mapping team, you’ll help shape how the world maintains and understands its most critical infrastructure. From inspecting bridges and powerlines to mapping construction sites and surveying large facilities, your work will make it possible to safely and efficiently capture insights that keep society running.

You’ll build intuitive, high-performance web applications that enable operators to plan and execute advanced missions, visualize rich 3D reconstructions, and seamlessly interact with massive spatial datasets. Beyond single flights, you’ll design interfaces that support simultaneous and even unsupervised missions, pushing the boundaries of autonomy and turning fleets of drones into reliable infrastructure in their own right.

The systems you build will directly shape how drones are used for mapping, inspections, patrols, emergency response, and beyond — delivering real-time intelligence, reducing risk, and unlocking the true potential of autonomous aerial operations.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Lead development of frontend experiences for mission planning, scheduling, execution inspection workflows, and complex mapping workflows.
  • Deliver high-performance visualization tools for 3D rendering, flight planning and geospatial data exploration of images, video, 3d and 2d objects.
  • Integrate inspection workflows, enabling customers to define, track, and inspect critical infrastructure through interactive visual interfaces.
  • Collaborate across autonomy, backend, and product teams to design features that are robust, reliable, and responsive to real-world field needs.
  • Innovate on user experience, combining intuitive design with high technical performance to simplify complex drone operations.

What makes you a good fit:

  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping customer-facing frontend applications.
  • Strong expertise in modern web development (React, TypeScript, GraphQL, WebGL/Three.js).
  • Proven ability to design systems that scale for performance, reliability, and usability.
  • Strong product intuition and empathy for end-users operating in high-stakes environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working across teams to deliver complex, integrated features from concept to production.
  Bonus points for:
  • Experience working with geospatial data visualization (Mapbox, Cesium, or similar).
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry, scanning, mapping, or rendering pipelines.
  • Experience integrating frontend with cloud-based services (AWS, Temporal, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to autonomy or robotics platforms.
