Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

As a Senior Software Engineer-DevOps you will support the organisation, achieve its strategic objectives by the identification of business requirements and solutions that address business problems and opportunities.

To be a successful Senior Software Engineer-DevOps you should have experience with:

  • Strong hands-on experience in implementing and managing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release automation across enterprise applications.
  • Proven expertise in CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, and automated deployment frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and container orchestration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies and deployment models across AWS, Azure, or Barclays Cloud Platform (BCP).
  • Experience in building and maintaining highly available, scalable, and secure environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix administration, scripting, and automation using Shell, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability solutions using tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, security controls, vulnerability management, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with application deployment strategies, environment management, release governance, and production support processes.
  • Proven ability to lead platform modernization initiatives and drive engineering excellence across teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments and collaborating with globally distributed teams.
  • Professional experience of 8+years

Additional relevant skills given below are highly valued:

  • Experience with cloud-native architectures, service mesh technologies, and Kubernetes ecosystem tooling.
  • Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, reliability engineering, and operational excellence practices.
  • Experience with messaging and event-driven platforms such as Kafka, MQ, and streaming technologies.
  • Knowledge of database deployment automation and schema management tools such as Liquibase.
  • Experience implementing GitOps, Infrastructure Security, and Policy-as-Code frameworks.
  • Exposure to FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization.
  • Experience in Financial Services, Wealth Management, or Regulatory environments.
  • Knowledge of performance engineering, resilience testing, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
  • Experience mentoring DevOps engineers and establishing enterprise DevOps standards and best practices.
  • Ability to drive platform strategy, DevOps transformation, and engineering productivity improvements across multiple teams.
