Job Description
The Team
The Developer Experience team at SEEK is dedicated to revolutionising the software engineering journey. Operating within SEEK's Engineering Platforms, our team is a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team that work within APAC matrix organisational structure.
The team is responsible for developer experience part of Automat, SEEK’s internal developer platform, based on Cloud Native ecosystem on Kubernetes. The team is also responsible other developer systems such as Backstage and other internal tools for managing containerised workloads
About the role
Join our dynamic team at SEEK Group as a Senior Software Engineer and be a key player in shaping the future of our Engineering Platform initiatives. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact by developing cutting-edge software solutions within our product delivery, systems, and platform teams. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing engineering quality, mentoring fellow Software Engineers, and delivering user-centric, reliable, and scalable solutions.
This role for Senior Software Engineer could include the following:
- Plan & lead technical initiatives within the team, providing clarity and support for other software engineers to deliver solutions that are fit for purpose.
- Build and operate highly scalable and performant software in alignment with SEEK’s technology strategy.
- Improve platform health, ensuring that our systems are, reliable, resilient, and efficient according to SEEK development practices.
- Ensure platform health for services owned are aligned to SEEK’s technical metrics goals.
- Driving internal customer focus to ensure we are delivering valuable outcomes for SEEK’s engineering teams.
- Foster a positive team environment, contributing to the safety, work-life balance, and wellbeing of team members.
- Mentor new hires and support the growth of team members.
You will work with various roles, including Software Engineers at multiple levels, Engineering Manager, Business Analyst / Iteration Manager, and Platform Engineers.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Has created and maintained software in two or more modern software development languages.
- Experience with the design, development, support and maintenance of cloud first applications or toolchains, with expertise in designing fault-tolerant systems.
- Experienced in leveraging two or more service offerings from major cloud providers (preferably AWS), spanning databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB), compute services (ECS, EC2, EKS, Lambda), networking services (VPC, Route53, CloudFront), and/or asynchronous messaging services (SNS, SQS, Kinesis).
- Experience in applying and improving continuous integration and continuous delivery (CD/CD) practices.
- Experience in establishing observabilities (logging, tracing, monitoring/alerting) for production workload to guarantee correct level of software reliability and performance.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to influence and lead technical decisions within the team and across the organisation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in an engineering platform space.
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Experience in application development on Kubernetes ecosystems, leveraging technologies such as ArgoCD, Flux, Istio and/or Linkerd.
- Developed production-level platform toolchains or services using TypeScript on Node.js and/or Golang to enable other teams to focus more on application development.
- Experienced in maintaining and developing internal developer portals like Backstage, including proficiency with frontend technologies such as ReactJS.
- In-depth expertise in observability using open standards like OpenTelemetry, along with experience leveraging various features of Datadog.
- Passionate in internal technical community building and developer experience advocacy.
