Siteline is a Series A SaaS startup in the construction billing space. We're a team of 28 full-time employees who live and work remotely across the U.S. and Canada, with a small in-person office in San Francisco as well.
What problems are we solving?
We're on a mission to modernize finance for construction, an industry that employs 1 out of every 10 workers, but lacks good software tools to get the job done. Payments in construction are fundamentally broken — the antiquated billing process hasn't evolved in decades, and construction is one of the slowest industries to get paid in. We've found a unique wedge into this huge market and are growing quickly.
Why are we building this?
Millions of hardworking people are affected by this broken system — in turn making construction more expensive and inefficient for society every year. When everyone up and down the chain is on the same page with payments, contractors can focus on actually building, instead of mountains of paperwork. We’re reimagining construction finance to help contractors get paid, grow their business, and build a better future for all of us.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a senior member of our small but mighty engineering team, you'll work closely with our cross-functional product team to conceptualize, implement, and ship features from start to finish, as well as own the maintenance and evolution of our backend tech stack and infrastructure. Whether iterating on core workflows, driving product initiatives, or building critical infrastructure, you'll be thinking nonstop about how to improve our customers' experience and scale the product. And, you'll be an early member of the Siteline team and lend your unique voice and perspective to the shaping of not just the product, but the company itself.
Siteline is headquartered in San Francisco. We value collaboration; this position is based in our San Francisco HQ where our eng team works together in-office 3-4 days a week. We're big believers in trust and in a healthy work/life balance: we want you to be productive and connected with the team, but we're not here to micromanage.
Responsibilities
- Technical leadership: Employ software engineering best practices to ensure our codebase remains well-tested and bug-free. As an early engineer, you’ll have a prominent voice in engineering decisions and technical direction across the stack.
- Infrastructure: Guide the future of our tech stack. To support greater usage and a larger customer base, our infrastructure needs to evolve, as does the way we store, query, and process data. You’ll not only be a key decision-maker, but will anticipate technical constraints and proactively find and engineer solutions.
- Integrations: Build and maintain robust integrations with third-party platforms—some modern and well-documented, others more outdated and opaque. You’ll grow to be a leader on the team’s integrations ecosystem and an expert on our external-facing systems and solutions.
- Systems design: Independently drive decisions on software architecture, data modeling, and infrastructure that scale with our customer base and perform reliably for our users.
- Product development: Work closely with the engineering and product team to plan, architect, and implement features. Your work will lean heavily toward the backend and API, but you’ll collaborate closely with frontend engineers and always think holistically about the product.
- Team building: Be an active part of shaping Siteline's culture, helping to recruit and mentor new team members and cultivating a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of professional software experience, including meaningful backend experience and exposure to full-stack work. You've designed and scaled complex backend systems, worked with internal and external APIs, and shipped to real customers on a regular basis.
- Modern tech: Familiarity working with Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, React, and Postgres.
- Problem solver: You're good at understanding and breaking down complex problems. You are resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity, and can make good decisions and forward progress even when requirements are unclear.
- Product focused: You take pride in building scalable, resilient software that delights users and advances the company’s business objectives.
- Great communicator: You engage thoughtfully and effectively with others, and you're an attentive and empathetic listener. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences and confidently break down tricky topics in writing and in person.
- Growth mindset: You're eager to learn, comfortable asking questions, and receptive to feedback.
Brownie Points
- Growth-phase startup: You've worked in a fast-paced startup environment in the past and are excited to do it again. You have experience managing infrastructure to support rapid growth and product usage at scale.
- Leadership: You have experience mentoring fellow team members and are considered a leader among your peers. You're approachable and enjoy helping others on the team continually grow.
- Creativity: You like to express yourself creatively through hobbies or interests outside of coding, and feel inspired to think outside the box in and away from your job.
WHAT WE OFFER
-
Competitive Salary: We provide a salary that reflects your skills and experience, along with opportunities for performance-based bonuses. For this role, we are targeting a range of $168-200k USD annually, depending on experience.
-
Flexible Work Environment: Enjoy the freedom to choose your work hours and the option to work remotely, promoting a healthy work-life balance. We have a small office in SF, but most of our team works remotely across the U.S. and Canada. Please note again that this specific role is SF-based and in-office 3-4 days a week.

We offer free annual One Medical memberships, HSAs and FSAs, dependent care coverage, access to free Talkspace mental health therapy, commuter stipends for SF team members, and more. What We Do
Construction is an industry built on change. With each new project, we change skylines, strengthen communities, and transform cities for the better.
But the reality isn’t always so simple. Between compliance and change orders, false starts and permit delays, the construction industry has a paperwork problem—especially when it comes to getting paid.
Cash flow is the lifeline of any contractor’s business, but billing is painful and slow. With so much manual work involved, a small, honest mistake can hold up millions of dollars in cash flow. And even when things go right, the time and effort it takes to get paid takes away from the work that really matters.
We believe that when you free up payments, you free up people to take on whatever’s next. We started Siteline to give construction teams a financial foundation to build on. Because when people are on the same page about getting paid, they can focus on whatever's next—whether that’s a new idea, a new project, or more time with their family.
