Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

LAI Games is an arcade experience company that connects people with games. Our vision is to reinvent the arcade industry by creating an arcade experience ecosystem that consists of physical arcade games and location-based VR games and experiences, and other exciting arcade-based titles. Our team members contribute across a broad range of unique and innovative projects that connect, engage, and excite players across physical and virtual worlds.

LAI games is growing, and we want to expand our support to our customers by offering remote software management of our games, and we want to provide our customers with comprehensive use-data of our games.

Key Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer (Backend), your list of responsibilities includes:

• Develop Enterprise-grade APIs - write efficient, maintainable, and clean code following best practices.
• Participate and lead architecture discussions, ensuring scalability, maintainability and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including frontend engineers, product managers, QAs and other engineers to deliver high-impact features
• Take full ownership of backend systems and be accountable for uptime, performance, and long-term maintainability
  Study, evaluate, understand, and provide feedback on functional specifications
• Identify areas for improvements to improve solution quality and development efficiency.
  Conduct research and prototyping of software and protocols to inform technical decisions and drive innovation.

Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate would have

• Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs, including strong knowledge of database schema design, caching strategies, and asynchronous job processing.
• Independent thinker and collaborator – You are capable in working independently while being able to accept feedback and work well in a team
• Effective communication skills – Ability to communicate complex technical problems effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders 
• Analytical problem-solving skills – possesses skills to break down problems, identify root causes and developing scalable solutions. You’re resourceful when facing unknowns.
• System design & architectural skills – you are capable of seeing the bigger picture – designing backend systems that are modular, resilient and future-proof. You make trade-offs between performance, reliability and simplicity
• Proficiency in Python stack (FastAPI, Django, Flask), with demonstrable experience in developing scalable applications.
• Familiarity with using version control tools such as GitHub and GitLab.
• Proficiency in relational and NoSQL database – Postgres and MongoDB
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts and their practical application.
• Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with Linux development environments

Additional Attributes:
 Experience with any cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

 Security Best Practices: Solid understanding of backend security principles, including authentication and authorization (e.g., OAuth2, JWT), data encryption, secure API design, input validation, and protection against
