Zendesk is seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer (Backend or Full Stack) to join our Custom Objects, Triggers & Automation team. As a vital member of the Custom Data & Logic group, you will be responsible for developing impactful functionality that supports our new Employee Service initiative within the Support domain. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer with a strong focus on building scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems that enhance user experiences for enterprise customers.

Design, develop, test, and deploy robust backend services and APIs that integrate seamlessly with frontend applications.

Collaborate effectively across teams to create secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet business requirements.

Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Proactively identify and mitigate potential issues in the development lifecycle.

Prioritize tasks effectively to maximize impact and deliver high value to users and the organization.

Mentor and guide team members to strengthen their technical skills and foster a culture of continuous learning.

Implement microservices architectures to enhance scalability and maintainability.

Apply cloud-native application development and deployment strategies, particularly within AWS environments.

Utilize automated API testing frameworks to ensure code quality and reliability.

Employ data modeling and database design principles, particularly in relational databases.

Work with distributed systems and message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) to build scalable applications.
Required qualifications

6+ years of professional experience in designing, developing, testing, and deploying software to production in a stable and reliable manner.

4+ years of hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and relational databases such as MySQL/Aurora.

Extensive experience working with GraphQL and REST APIs to build robust and scalable services.

Proven ability to architect and deliver solutions for projects at an enterprise scale.

Solid experience with version control systems, as well as continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

Strong experience with key AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, and CloudFormation, enabling the design and deployment of scalable and reliable cloud-based applications.

Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of software engineers, collaborating effectively with Design, Product, and Engineering counterparts.

Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English.
Preferred qualifications

Experience in identifying opportunities to effectively utilize AI and machine learning capabilities to enhance application functionality and improve user experiences.

Strong understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript fundamentals, JavaScript frameworks (React, Redux), and testing libraries (Cypress, Jest, React Testing Library)

Experience independently architecting and delivering solutions on projects at enterprise scale.

Understanding of micro frontends and federation architectures.
-
Familiarity with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes and deployment tools like Spinnaker.

Understanding of security best practices for backend development and data protection.

Experience with performance optimization and monitoring tools to ensure high system availability and responsiveness.

Previous experience with Zendesk or similar customer support platforms is a plus.

Please note that Zendesk can only hire candidates who are physically located and plan to work from Karnataka or Maharashtra. Please refer to the location posted on the requisition for where this role is based.
Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
