Our Implantable Heart Failure Management (IHFM) business's AI, Product and Platforms organization is at the forefront of addressing these unmet patient needs through pioneering technology that enables early, targeted therapeutic intervention. Our innovative solutions are not just transforming patient care but also creating a unique and exciting environment for our team members. It is our driving force to help patients live longer and healthier lives. Join us and be part of our inspiring journey.
At Edwards Lifesciences, the Implantable Heart Failure Management (IHFM) AI, Product and Platforms organization designs and builds the software and data products that clinicians and patients depend on. As a Senior Software Engineer (Applications), Full Stack, you own the application and service architecture for a web product area, build the patterns and shared components others follow, and are first in line for the production health of what you ship.
Based in Irvine, CA, you'll join a high-impact medtech innovation hub in the heart of Orange County, collaborating in person with cross-functional teams to shape patient-focused technology.
How you'll make an impact:
- Product-area architecture. Design and own the application architecture for a web product area: state management, routing, data fetching against Platform APIs, rendering strategy, design system implementation, and experimentation.
- APIs and security. Define and document the API contracts your product area needs from Platform, consume them through the Platform API gateway, and implement client-side authentication and authorization flows (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SSO); contribute server-side code to Platform-owned services where your area requires it.
- Performance and reliability. Own customer-facing performance and quality metrics, such as Core Web Vitals, API latency, and error rates, and build the fixes that move them.
- Cloud deployment. Design and deploy your web applications on the cloud (AWS or GCP) using containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code, within the standards and security controls that Platform and DevSecOps own.
- Patterns and modernization. Build the patterns and shared components others follow, review designs and code against them, and drive targeted modernization in your area, such as Angular to React and BFF to Platform APIs.
- Design control. Produce the architecture documents, verification tests, and traceability for your area's design outputs, and understand how they contribute to the Design History File under IEC 62304.
- Production ownership. Serve as a trusted on-call lead for web surfaces, lead root-cause analysis, and resolve complex production issues affecting clinicians and patients, including issues that trace into Platform-owned services you contribute to.
- Mentorship. Mentor P1 and P2 engineers, review their designs and code, and participate in hiring.
What you'll need (Required):
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field plus four years of experience -or- Master’s degree plus three years of experience.
- Deep proficiency in React or Angular with TypeScript and working proficiency in a server-side stack such as Node.js, Python, Java, Go, or Rust.
- Demonstrated experience designing application architecture and API contracts, including state management, data fetching, and integration with internal and third-party systems.
- Experience deploying and operating applications on a cloud platform (AWS or GCP), including CI/CD and containers.
- Experience owning the performance, reliability, and production health of end-user-facing software.
- Strong communication skills, including effective collaboration with distributed teams across time zones, and the ability to set standards within a secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC), including CI/CD and automated testing.
What else we look for (Preferred):
- Experience in medical device software (SaMD), or other regulated classes of device software, under IEC 62304, ISO 13485, and FDA design controls.
- Experience leading a frontend modernization, such as Angular to React.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Experience with design system implementation and design tokens, including tooling such as Figma and Tokens Studio.
- Familiarity with EMR / EHR integration via HL7, FHIR, or IHE.
- A cloud certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect or Developer, or a GCP equivalent.
- Familiarity with usability engineering and human factors (IEC 62366-1).
Aligning our overall business objectives with performance, we offer competitive salaries, performance-based incentives, and a wide variety of benefits programs to address the diverse individual needs of our employees and their families.

Edwards Lifesciences Insights
What We Do
Edwards Lifesciences (NYSE: EW), is the global leader in patient-focused medical innovations for structural heart disease, as well as critical care and surgical monitoring. We thrive on discovery and expanding the boundaries of medical technology, serving patients in 100+ countries, with the help of our employees in areas including Clinical Affairs, Quality Engineering, Research & Development, Regulatory Affairs, Sales & Marketing, corporate functions and more. Our roots date back to 1958 when Miles Lowell Edwards, a retired engineer with a background in hydraulics and fuel pump operations, set out to build the first artificial heart. Edwards believed the heart could be mechanized and was encouraged by Dr. Albert Starr to focus on developing an artificial heart valve. After just two years, the first Starr-Edwards mitral valve was developed and successfully placed in a patient. This innovation spawned Edwards Laboratories. Miles’ fascination with healing the heart and helping patients with heart disease stemmed from his own experience with rheumatic fever as a teenager and continues to fuel our patient-first culture today. Today, we are as passionate about providing innovative solutions for people fighting cardiovascular disease as we have ever been. It's our Credo. It takes integrity, collaboration, innovation, and focus. We are leaders in the design and manufacture of tissue replacement heart valves and repair products as well as advanced hemodynamic monitoring. We partner with physicians to innovate products designed to help patients live longer, healthier, and more productive lives. Our work is both rewarding and a privilege. The importance of what we do defines our approach. We work together to create an environment where ideas can flourish and we provide our people with the resources, expertise and support to bring those ideas to life.
