Job Description

Wise is opening a new office in Seoul in order to support our Asia & Pacific teams and regional plans, particularly in South Korea. The role is a unique opportunity to build beautifully simple experiences that guide our customers through Wise, helping them to live, travel and work without borders.

How you’ll be contributing to our Engineering team:

  • Develop Wise Products from the heart of South Korea, bring your expertise to challenge South Korea’s banking status quo and build the best financial experience to Korean customers

  • Elevate our mission by scaling across the APAC region, reaching hundreds of millions more customers while shielding them from technical complexity through beautifully simple, high-impact product experiences

  • Working on the core flow of Wise, you'll ensure our customers get the best experience even when things don’t go as planned by building self service solutions, automating the resolution and building efficient tooling for our Operations team.

  • Build robust financial infrastructure to provide the same rapid and simple experience found in local transfers for international transactions

  • Create clear and helpful interfaces, whilst maintaining consistency, maintainability, performance and an understanding of what problems our customers might encounter along the way

  • Take initiative to identify and solve important problems. Coordinates with others on cross-cutting technical issues

  • Drive product improvement that impacts the Wise customer experience or empowers internal stakeholders (teams like Operations, Customer Support, Finance, etc.) to do their job effectively

  • Proactively identify and tackle technical debt becoming too big through planning work and aligning the team. Does this with careful evaluation of additional cost on development

Qualifications

A bit about you

  • You have solid Java 17 plus knowledge and experience with Spring framework

  • You approach challenges with a strong product mindset, prioritise customer needs and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points

  • You have led the design and development of complex engineering solutions and understand their broader impact on business outcomes.

  • You have excellent communication skills and can articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audience in English and Korean.

  • You provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers

  • You have experience in technical leadership - maintain technical excellence of your team, managing performance, giving feedback, and coaching engineers to thrive.

What you can expect as an Engineer at Wise:

We don't measure seniority by years of experience, but by the impact you create and the complexity of problems you can help solve. As a Senior Software Engineer at Wise, you would be given the licence to:

  • Lead medium to large (8-16 engineering weeks) sized projects that have a meaningful impact on Wise product and customers

  • Own the technical domain of your team with a view on how it should move forward

  • Propose ideas to improve and grow your team’s product
