SQL Engineer & Azure
Job Summary
We are seeking a seasoned SQL Developer to lead the design, optimization, and modernization of our data infrastructure. This role is critical to supporting our large-scale, event-driven platform built on .NET and Azure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL Server, Azure data services, Kafka, and Databricks, with a strong background in performance tuning, data migrations, and legacy system modernization.
Job Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance SQL Server databases for enterprise-grade applications
- Design and implement event-driven data pipelines using Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, and Databricks
- Lead data migration efforts to modernize implementations for High Availability.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to optimize data access patterns and ensure seamless integration with .NET services
- Perform advanced SQL performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization. And other performance tuning techniques on the DB level and application level along with scaling strategies like sharding, partitioning, and replication
- Implement data ingestion from on-premises and cloud sources (APIs, flat files, relational DBs, etc.)
- Define and enforce data governance, security, and compliance standards
- Implement high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies
- Work with DevOps to automate database deployments and manage infrastructure as code
- Conduct capacity planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of production environments
- Collaborate with business analysts, data architects, and stakeholders to define data integration strategies.
- Monitor, debug, and optimize ADF pipelines, triggers, and linked services.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for ETL/ADF processes.
- Mentor developers and DBAs on best practices for database design and usage
Required Qualifications
- 7–10 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including SSIS, SSRS, and T-SQL
- Strong experience with Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Databricks
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event streaming platforms
- Proven track record in legacy system migrations and data modernization
- Deep understanding of database performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plans
- Experience with .NET-backed systems and integration with ORM tools like Entity Framework
- Or experience working closely with .NET teams to ensure optimal data access patterns
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for database deployments (e.g., Azure DevOps, Flyway)
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, normalization, and schema design
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Experience with data warehousing concepts (star schema, snowflake schema, fact & dimension modeling).
- Strong background in performance tuning and debugging ETL/ADF processes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for ADF using Git/DevOps.
- Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with real-time analytics and stream processing using Databricks Structured Streaming
- Familiarity with feature flagging and configurable data-driven architectures
- Exposure to NoSQL databases like Cosmos DB, MongoDB, or Redis
- Knowledge of data observability tools like SQL Sentry, Redgate, or Grafana
- Contributions to technical blogs, whitepapers, or open-source projects
- Knowledge of Databricks, Azure Functions, or Logic Apps.
- Experience with Power BI or other BI tools for reporting integration.
- Exposure to Python, .NET, or other scripting languages for data orchestration.
