Who You Are

You are a Senior Software Development Engineer L4 who brings deep software engineering expertise and can work through complex technical tasks independently. You play an important role on the engineering team by building scalable, secure, and testable software that supports Inovalon’s products and clients. You understand the full software development life cycle and apply strong engineering principles to design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

• Develop high quality, testable software that meets team commitments and aligns with the defined Definition of Done.

• Apply a test-first approach to software development where possible by creating tests before implementation and building automated unit, system, and acceptance tests.

• Design, implement, unit test, and validate software solutions by following established engineering processes and standards.

• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and test plan reviews with other engineers to improve code quality, scalability, security, and maintainability.

• Support assigned integration, testing, deployment, and change management activities as business and technical scope evolves.

• Partner with product management to scope, estimate, and refine product enhancements and technical solutions.

• Troubleshoot and resolve internal and customer-reported software defects in accordance with defined processes and service expectations.

• Contribute to end-of-iteration demos, retrospectives, and team improvement efforts by identifying impediments and helping drive practical solutions.

• Create and maintain documentation covering program logic, development, testing, changes, and corrections.

• Participate in an on-call rotation to address critical issues outside standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and respond within defined service levels.

What You'll Need

• 5+ years of experience in enterprise Java development and 3+ years of experience with JavaScript using modern UI frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

• Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies.

• Demonstrated experience with caching, queuing, scheduling, concurrent systems, and event-driven architectures.

• Demonstrated experience developing applications on or for Linux platforms.

• Proven experience implementing distributed systems and microservice architectures using RESTful APIs.

• Working knowledge of best practices for implementing secure web applications.

• Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP, and/or other cloud environments.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment techniques.

• Show an open and inquisitive mindset by learning new technologies quickly and applying that learning to improve engineering outcomes.

• Influence and collaborate effectively across engineering and product partners, contribute constructively in reviews, and help strengthen team performance through shared problem solving.

• Adjust quickly to changing priorities, shifting technical requirements, and evolving business needs while staying focused on delivery outcomes.

• Generate practical and innovative ideas to solve technical problems, improve systems, and enhance development efficiency.

• Use data, logic, and sound technical judgment to evaluate tradeoffs, identify root causes, and make informed engineering decisions.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience preferred.

Work Environment

• This is primarily a computer-based role performed in a remote, hybrid, or office environment. The role requires prolonged periods of computer use and frequent communication and interaction with others, either virtually and/or in person. The role may occasionally require transporting or moving work-related equipment weighing up to 10 pounds, such as a laptop and related materials. Some travel may be required, depending on the needs of the role. Work Location: If the US position is listed as remote, employees who reside within a 40-mile radius of one of our office locations in Tampa, FL; Canonsburg, PA; or Bowie, MD will follow a hybrid work schedule and are expected to work in the office two days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
