Leidos’ Defense Sector is seeking a Senior Software Developer to support an Army Program focused on delivering advanced capabilities for operational decision-making in complex and dynamic environments. The Senior Software Developer leads the design, development, and delivery of complex software systems across the full engineering lifecycle. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to mentor and guide development teams. The developer will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, drive technical decision-making, and ensure that software solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable. This position is ideal for someone who excels at solving challenging problems and influencing long-term technical strategy.
Locations include Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Fort Belvoir, FL; Tampa, FL
This position is contingent upon program award, anticipated late March.
This role is open to candidates with a wide range of experience levels. The scope of the position and corresponding compensation will be aligned with the candidate’s background and expertise.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of software applications, services, and system components.
- Architect scalable, reliable, and secure solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, providing technical guidance and code review oversight.
- Collaborate with product management, systems engineering, and QA to refine requirements and ensure seamless integration.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across development, test, and production environments.
- Drive improvements in development processes, tooling, automation, and system performance.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and architectural diagrams.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, deployment activities, and production monitoring.
- Participate in and lead agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field with 8 – 12+ years of experience or a Master’s degree with 6 – 10+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
- Professional software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Experience designing and building scalable, distributed, or cloud‑based systems.
- Proficiency with version control systems such as Git.
- Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, or event‑driven architectures.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead technical efforts and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related technical discipline.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Background in high‑availability, high‑performance, or mission‑critical systems.
- Experience with front‑end or back‑end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, .NET, Spring, Django).
- Ability to influence architectural decisions and long‑term technical strategy.
