Meet Benevity
Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!
Benevity is on a dynamic growth trajectory, where embracing change is part of our DNA. We're on the lookout for a Senior Software Developer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and values collaboration in a diverse and inclusive team setting. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in software development, including expertise in debugging, code review, and testing. You'll play a pivotal role in tackling complex challenges, designing, and developing innovative solutions, and leading projects from conception to delivery. Your contributions will not only involve working closely with technical leaders and various teams to exceed client expectations but also providing mentorship to enhance the team's technical skills and foster a culture of high performance.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion, inviting applications from candidates with a range of professional experiences. We encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every criterion listed, and join us in our mission to drive positive change.
What you’ll do:
- Focus on crafting production-level code that is clean, modular, and thoroughly documented, while strictly adhering to coding standards and best practices
- Engage in collaborative efforts to define and document requirements, ensuring clarity, task breakdown, and accurate time estimates
- Engage in research and the creation of proofs of concept to support reliable implementation plans and foster team confidence
- Take a leadership role in sprint refinement and planning sessions, guiding development strategies and promoting an efficient software development life cycle (SDLC)
- Ensure the highest quality of software through meticulous testing and debugging, aligning with our standards for completion
- Develop and maintain models for data, software, and network architecture that meet organizational standards and promote effective information exchange
- Lead in identifying and analyzing the root causes of issues during testing phases and incident management. Innovate in testing by designing and implementing comprehensive test cases, including automating integration tests within the CI/CD pipeline to enhance early detection (embodying a shift-left approach)
- Actively participate in code reviews to elevate code quality and maintain consistency across projects. Work on optimizing and refactoring existing systems and legacy code to boost performance and scalability
- Oversee the CI/CD pipeline management for swift and secure code deployment.
- Regularly monitor the performance, security, and user experience of all applications under your team's purview, identifying and addressing areas for improvement with a focus on continuous enhancement
What you’ll bring:
- Seeking a candidate with a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience, bringing over 5 years of experience in high-performance, full-stack software development
- You should have extensive expertise in Java, SpringBoot, Python, Vue.js, Docker, and Jenkins, with additional skills in Drupal and PHP considered a plus
- Your experience should also include 5+ years in AWS, covering a broad range of services from API Gateway to Terraform
- Your skill set should encompass advanced database design across SQL and NoSQL databases, expertise in developing APIs (OpenAPI, JSON:API, GraphQL), and proficiency in Git and platforms like BitBucket/GitHub for version control and collaboration
- We value problem-solving skills, especially in ambiguous situations, and the ability to design, build, and deploy scalable and resilient systems
- Quality is paramount; we expect a demonstrated pride in delivering high-quality, maintainable, and scalable software
- Your experience should also include working with legacy systems, optimizing existing software, and fostering a growth mindset to continually improve code quality and processes
- Strong communication skills are essential for understanding user needs and translating them into effective solutions
- We encourage candidates who are committed to continuous learning, process optimization, and mentoring within a diverse and inclusive team environment
