Senior Software Backend Engineer – Python (Remote)

Percona is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with a strong focus on Python to join its Global Advanced Services team.

In this role, you will work primarily on backend services, database-related systems, and Python-based solutions, contributing to new feature development and bug fixing in close collaboration with our services teams.

You will work from your home office, using online tools and resources to contribute to a fast-moving and high-performing development environment for Percona and its customers.

Access to a reliable high-speed internet connection is required. Flexible work hours.

What You Will Do:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services primarily using Python, with a strong focus on building frameworks for database-management systems and operational tooling.

• Create and submit patches for review, perform periodic source code merges

• Perform root cause analysis of customer-impacting defects to provide the optimal solution

• Develop test cases for continuous integration deployment

• Participate in code and design reviews

• Diagnose and fix defects

• Create documentation about your work that is consumable and can be refined by our documentation team

• Share your knowledge by attending and speaking at related conferences and writing blog posts about your work, participating in our public forums

• Provide Support to our Services Teams

What You Have Done:

• Minimum 4 years of hands-on, production experience as a backend software engineer, with Python as a primary programming language. While experience across the stack is valuable, this role is heavily backend-focused, and candidates should be comfortable spending most of their time working on backend logic and database-related systems.

• Self-motivated with a track record of going above and beyond expectations

• Experience building and operating backend services for production users

• Experience with Python web frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django

• Familiarity with relational databases and data modeling concepts

• Distributed system development and/or database-related development

• Fluent in developer tools like git

• Working autonomously in a globally distributed organization

• Collaborating with open-source communities and colleagues via mailing lists, IRC, Slack, etc.

• Using collaboration/tracking tools like Jira/Notion

• Ability to speak, listen, and write effectively in fluent English

• Quick learner & great team player

What Will Make You Stand Out:

• Database management knowledge

• Proven success working in a distributed environment

• Additional programming languages such as Go or Rust

• Web frontend development experience

• Designing and evolving REST APIs with versioning, auth, and backward compatibility in mind

• Shell scripting

• Automation in Linux environments

• Test Driven Development and practical experience with CI/CD pipelines

• Familiarity with observability practices (logging, metrics, tracing)
