JOB TITLE: Senior Site Reliability Engineer
SALARY: £81,999 - £91,110 per annum
LOCATION: London
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites
Join our Payments Lab team as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer and help shape the future of retail banking as we undergo the largest transformation in the UK banking industry.
About this opportunity
The Payments Lab team is at the heart of retail banking innovation, delivering new initiatives such as Request a Payment and enabling cash deposits at your local pay point store. As part of the Consumer Servicing & Engagement (CS&E) Platform, we are modernising our tech stack and building new capabilities using the latest technologies across Cloud and Mobile.
The Consumer Servicing & Engagement (CS&E) Platform delivers a unified digital servicing proposition for personal customers on the device of their choosing, giving the best digital customer experience to increase engagement and options for self-service.
We build deeper and more trusted relationships with our customers and support them to improve their financial lives by offering valuable, engaging and human-like digital banking experiences. We grow customer satisfaction and trust through simple, helpful and personalised experiences that they love.
We provide and guide our 25M+ customers to complete and easy-to-use self-serve offerings where they can do (almost) everything they want within digital. We deepen valued customer relationships, helping them build financial resilience, by understanding what they need and when.
Day to day, you will
• Apply best practices in observability, automation, capacity planning and DevOps
• Work alongside other SREs in Consumer Servicing to maintain application stack reliability across the Group
• Apply your knowledge in architectural build systems to maintain a resilient and scalable system
• Create documentation that establishes the SRE function within the platform backed by best practice that capture the guidelines to be met by incorporating existing documentation
• Provide a framework in which to operate the cloud systems under
• Lead the transition to cloud infrastructure and improve observability across systems
• Identify and eliminate toil through automation
• Manage incidents and post-mortems to improve service reliability
• Mentor engineers and support team development
• Collaborate with Product Owners to balance operational and development priorities

What you’ll need:
• Prior Banking or Financial Services industry experience or an understanding of the UK regulatory bodies that govern the industry
• Demonstrable experience with Cloud & Infrastructure: GCP preferred (GKE / Dataflow / Spanner / Cloud Logging and IAM)
• Strong background in Monitoring & Observability: Dynatrace preferred or Datadog or ELK
• Prior System Engineering and Networking experience in Linux preferred or Windows
• Demonstrable experience in Python/Go or Java programming/automation and scripting languages
• Deep Knowledge on Docker and Kubernetes
• Demonstrable understanding of REST / gRPC APIs
• Familiarity with Ci/CD scripting using Jenkins or Harness
• Prior experience in Incident Response / troubleshooting and Chaos Engineering
• Understanding of Performance Testing and Capacity Planning
And any experience of these would be really useful:
• Prior experience of AI/ML
• Prior Banking or Financial Services industry experience or an understanding of the UK regulatory bodies that govern the industry
