The Role

At Workrise, our Belfast Engineering Teams build the technology powering our next-generation marketplace. We work in agile, cross-functional teams focused on scalability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you'll deploy product updates, resolve production issues, and implement integrations that meet company and client needs. Leveraging cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and automation, you'll help evolve our platforms while ensuring performance and security.
This role offers the opportunity to shape how we scale and optimize systems, drive best practices, and mentor others-leaving things better than we found them.
What You'll Be Doing
As you get up to speed, we'll support you in becoming familiar with our teams, product domains, tech stack, and processes-helping you understand how we work together.
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you will:

  • Automate and optimize operations - Design and develop tools to streamline application service operations, enhance observability, and ensure efficient auditing.
  • Improve system reliability and security - Perform root cause analysis for production issues, implement long-term fixes, and proactively mitigate cybersecurity threats.
  • Scale and maintain infrastructure - Support and evolve our Kubernetes-based microservices ecosystem to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate and drive best practice s - Work closely with engineering, application, and product teams to implement scalable solutions while ensuring development aligns with operational excellence.
  • Influence and mentor - Share expertise through technical demos, brown bag sessions, and design proposals, while mentoring engineers to foster technical growth across the organisation.

This role is an opportunity to drive automation, reliability, and security while shaping the future of our platform.
Our main tech stack includes: Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes & Docker, Kotlin, Temporal, SpringBoot, React.js, Typescript, Material-UI, Next.js Node.js, MongoDB, PostgreS and Kafka. If you have production scale experience in a different stack (Go, Java, Python, Scala, C#, etc.) and are interested in moving to a new stack, we should chat!
Who you are:
You're a hands-on developer who gets stuck in, you enjoy solving complex problems & building impactful solutions - importantly, you lead by example in making a difference.

  • Take the initiative to own outcomes from start to finish - knowing what needs to be done within your domain and how we work together to deliver the best solution.
  • You've a passion for developing your craft - you get what it takes to build quality, robust and scalable solutions.
  • You'll see the learning when things don't quite go to plan - not just for you but how we continuously improve as a team.

So, what is important to us:

  • 5+ years of relevant DevOps / SRE experience
  • 2+ years supporting a high availability cloud environment in a DevOps or SRE role
  • Experience provisioning, deploying, and supporting containers (Helm / Kustomize, Kubernetes, and Docker)
  • Hands-on monitoring tool usage (Grafana, Prometheus)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code technologies for cloud resources (preferably Terraform)
  • Familiarity with cloud service platforms (GCP, AWS or Azure, VPC, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing, DNS, etc.)

Above all, you'll get stuff done, more importantly, you'll collaborate to do the right things, in the right way, to achieve the right outcomes.
Some of the things that would be nice to have, a plus but not required:

  • Previous experience working on teams building tools for developers
  • Cloud security certification or background
  • Experience configuring and maintaining a Kubernetes server mesh (lstio)
