Job Summary:

Globalstar runs a large-scale monitoring and data platform that gives our organization real-time and historical visibility into the health of critical satellite and ground infrastructure. We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to strengthen its reliability, performance, and on-call depth.

This is a broad, hands-on role spanning infrastructure engineering, data pipeline reliability, monitoring strategy, and operational excellence. This individual helps the organization scale a growing monitoring and analytics capability while keeping it fast, cost-efficient, and dependable.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Own the health and performance of a large-scale data and monitoring pipeline that ingests, stores, and serves high volumes of operational data.
  • Continuously improve system performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability as data volume and usage grow.
  • Evaluate, adopt, and integrate monitoring, alerting, and data-platform tools — both open-source and commercial — assessing build-vs-buy tradeoffs and leading pilots where useful.
  • Design and maintain the rules-based, deterministic checks that operational teams rely on for critical alerting and data-quality assurance.
  • Lead or contribute to incident response, on-call rotations, root-cause analysis, and postmortems for production systems.
  • Support disaster-recovery planning and execution, including regional failover exercises and recovery validation.
  • Assess current workflows and data practices, identify gaps, and drive phased improvement plans in partnership with operations and other engineering teams.
  • Partner with engineering leadership and other stakeholders to plan capacity, prioritize investments, and communicate tradeoffs in clear, non-technical terms when needed.
  • Champion infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment practices across the platform.
  • Mentor other engineers and help build institutional knowledge so the platform isn't dependent on any single individual.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact clearly and concisely with all departments and levels of management
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention-to-detail
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with NetSuite

Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications:

Required

  • 7+ years in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, Data Engineering, or a closely related discipline, operating production systems at meaningful scale.
  • Strong experience with modern data infrastructure: streaming or event-driven data pipelines, large-scale storage systems, and analytical query engines.
  • Proficiency in at least one systems programming language (e.g., Go, Java, or similar) used for backend/data services.
  • Practical experience with observability and monitoring tooling (metrics, logs, traces, alerting) in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated on-call experience: incident response, root-cause analysis, and clear postmortem writing.
  • Comfort with infrastructure-as-code and modern CI/CD or GitOps practices.
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical tradeoffs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Experience operating a data or monitoring platform at large scale (multi-terabyte-per-day or higher).
  • Familiarity with multi-region or disaster-recovery architectures.
  • Familiarity with SQL database queries preferred
  • Familiarity with AWS data pipeline tools (S3, Kinesis, Kinesis Analytics, etc)
  • Background evaluating and integrating third-party or commercial monitoring/data platform tools.
  • Experience in industries with high-cardinality sensor, IoT, or infrastructure telemetry.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed
  • Willingness and ability to work after regularly scheduled hours as needed
  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods working on a computer (4 to 8 hours)
  • Ability to operate the equipment used for the job
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds at times
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job
