Within the High-Speed Photonic Component (HSPC) organization, this role is central to advancing Ciena’s silicon photonics innovation and enabling next-generation optical networking solutions. As a Silicon Photonics Chip Designer, this position directly shapes the performance, scalability, and manufacturability of high-speed optical transmitters and receivers across Ciena’s product portfolio.
How you will make an impact:
• Design and validate silicon photonics chips for high-speed optical transmitters and receivers, balancing performance, cost, and reliability requirements
• Define photonic integrated circuit layouts (GDS) and collaborate with wafer fabrication partners on design verification, production, and delivery
• Lead and contribute to photonic circuit design reviews prior to release to manufacturing
• Support module prototyping, test definition, and transfer of designs to high-volume production in partnership with operations and manufacturing teams
• Drive continuous improvements in performance, yield, and reliability across the full product life cycle
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver prototypes and production products based on Ciena’s silicon photonics platform
• Monitor, document, and communicate technical progress while proactively identifying risks impacting specifications, schedules, or budgets
The must haves:
• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in optics, physics, engineering physics, or a related discipline
