Why this role?
As a Senior Search Infrastructure Engineer (a Member of Technical Staff role on our Search team) you will work directly with Cohere’s Search Tools and Search Modeling teams to deploy and support the search platform, and solutions built on top it.
This will include assessing service stability, managing releases, and exploring ways to increase resiliency. You will also be involved in sizing cluster hardware, optimizing the stack, and integrating with model serving backends.
In this role, you’ll be working daily with cutting edge search models, and providing the best experience for internal and external customers. This work has extremely high impact, and will contribute directly to the success of Cohere.
Please Note: This role requires participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation, where you are compensated for time spent on-call.
We have offices in Toronto, San Francisco, New York and London. We embrace a remote-friendly environment, and as part of this approach, we strategically distribute teams based on interests, expertise, and time zones to promote collaboration and flexibility.
As a Senior Search Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

Support Search Services for internal and external use cases, enabling stable and successful search experiences for our customers.

Automate observability and resilience. Enable all developers to troubleshoot and resolve problems relating to search.

Take steps required to ensure we hit defined SLOs, including participation in an on-call rotation.

Build strong relationships with internal developers and influence the Search and Infrastructure team’s roadmap based on their feedback.

Develop our team through knowledge sharing and an active review process.
You may be a good fit if:

You have experience supporting Opensearch or Elasticsearch clusters in a production environment

You have production deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters
-
You have solved problems while on-call for a production system

You have hands-on coding experience developing services and automated tests

You have experience scaling and debugging cloud-based infrastructure through GCP, AWS, or Azure

You see mentorship, knowledge transfer, and review as essential prerequisites for a healthy team
