A scientific professional specializing in research to investigate relationships or solve technical problems, possibly for a specific application or within a specific branch of science. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering/scientific techniques, processes, and criteria.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The primary focus of this position will be to ensure timely delivery of customer projects. This will involve overseeing the execution of projects and ensuring that they are completed within the designated timeframe.
- The key responsibility of this role is to provide expertise in polymer processing for extrusion. This will involve utilizing knowledge of polymer structure/property relationships, as well as polymer testing methods to advance assigned projects.
- This position will require effective communication and interaction with internal stakeholders, including the sales team, customer management, project managers, and technical and operational managers, throughout the project realization process.
- This role will involve leading projects related to the procurement, installation, and validation of polymer processing equipment..
- The successful candidate will be responsible for thoroughly documenting, reviewing, and analyzing experimental activities including making scientifically relevant observations, collecting data, and drawing conclusions to support the development of assigned projects.
- It is imperative that the individual in this role adheres to safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to mitigate potential hazards and exposures.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in identifying and resolving safety concerns.
- Follow SOP’s, GMP, and GLP regulations and procedures; generate and maintain thorough and accurate documentation in support of SOP, GMP, and GLP regulated activities.
- Train lab technicians and technical staff; may oversee laboratory and/or technical activities, as appropriate.
- Active in seeking out and identifying efficiency opportunities related to Operations
- This position may require performing additional tasks to support operation of the Medical Devices business. These tasks may include activities such as purchasing, shipping, and inventory management, among others.
REQUIREMENTS
- BS degree in relevant scientific discipline plus 8 or more yrs relevant experience; MS degree in a relevant technical discipline plus 5 or more years of relevant experience; or a PHD in a relevant technical field plus 3 years; a demonstrated level of performance and capability as determined by management.
- The candidate must have experience leading a project from concept to commercialization, while working with a diverse team from various functional areas. Additionally, the successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to overcome technical challenges.
- Advanced understanding of engineering principles for polymer processing technology; scale-up, process flow diagrams, block flow diagram.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and use of polymeric characterization methods including rheology, static and dynamic mechanical analysis, thermal analysis, NMR, etc.
- Knowledge of the use of personal protective equipment and safety protocols and practices relating to working with or exposure to hazardous chemicals that could potentially affect the health of the employee.
- Ability to:
- Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time;
- Stand for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area;
- Grasp objects utilizing the fingers (fine motor manipulation);
- Reach for objects above the head or below the waist;
- Stoop or Crouch by bending at the waist or by bending the legs;
- Determine colors.
- Experienced in the use of, root cause analysis methodologies, troubleshooting skills, and quality management techniques.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong practical knowledge of experimental design, polymer science and engineering and material processing.
- Critical Thinking: able to break down a situation and organize parts of the problem systematically to figure out the cause and effect relationships that can help solve the issue
- Flexibility: Able to adapt to changing circumstances and environments; modifies method of approach according to the needs of the situation and responds to change with a positive attitude.
