Responsibilities include growing account share, achieving sales targets, negotiating commercial terms, executing localized promotions, coordinating dealer training, and monitoring competitor activity. The role requires consultative B2B sales, hearing aid technology familiarity, CRM proficiency, territory planning, and travel of up to 50–60% within the assigned territory.
Summary Generated by Built In

The Senior Sales Manager (SSM) drives revenue growth by managing and expanding business with mid-to-high potential hearing aid dealers, independent audiology practices, and regional retail clinics. This role focuses on increasing share-of-wallet within an assigned territory, ensuring high product adoption, and delivering localized sales strategies.

The SSM operates with a focused regional revenue target tailored to premium account management, which is structurally distinct from the macro-level enterprise targets managed by our Business Development Managers (BDMs).

2. Core Role Demarcation (SSM vs. BDM)

To maintain structural clarity across our sales vertical, this position is differentiated from the Business Development Manager (BDM) role across three primary pillars:

  • Portfolio Scope: The SSM manages and nurtures existing mid-to-high tier retail dealers. The BDM focuses strictly on untapped corporate chains, hospital networks, and government tenders.
  • Revenue Scale: The SSM target is scaled to regional dealer capacity, sitting structurally lower than national or macro-level BDM revenue targets.
  • Sales Cycle: The SSM handles high-frequency, relationship-driven monthly sales and restocking cycles. The BDM handles long-cycle institutional contract acquisitions.

3. Key Responsibilities

Account Management & Growth

  • Portfolio Ownership: Cultivate and expand a dedicated portfolio of mid-to-high potential hearing care professionals (HCPs) and independent dealers.
  • Market Share Expansion: Increase product mix and "share of wallet" within accounts currently sourcing from multiple hearing aid manufacturers.
  • Relationship Cultivation: Build deep, consultative partnerships with audiologists, clinic owners, and ENT specialists.

Sales Execution & Revenue

  • Revenue Generation: Consistently achieve assigned quarterly and annual sales volume and revenue targets for the specific territory.
  • Commercial Negotiation: Manage commercial terms, discount structures, and volume rebates within pre-approved regional parameters.
  • Promotional Execution: Design and implement hyper-local marketing campaigns, dispensing days, and consumer pull-actions with retail partners.

Enablement & Market Intelligence

  • Training Coordination: Partner with internal Audiology Trainers to upskill dealer staff on new software, chip platforms, and fitting rationale.
  • Competitor Intelligence: Monitor competitor pricing, product launch cycles, and dealer incentives to proactively protect market share.

4. Requirements & Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Experience: 2–3 years of proven B2B sales experience specifically within the hearing aid industry, medical devices, or optical retail.
  • Industry Track Record: Demonstrated success selling to independent audiologists, retail dispensers, or hearing care networks.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or a related field.

Skills & Competencies

  • Sales Methodology: Strong relationship builder utilizing a consultative, value-based selling approach rather than transactional sales.
  • Technical Familiarity: Basic understanding of hearing aid fitting concepts and technology platforms.
  • Tools & Planning: Proficiency in territory planning and CRM software usage (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot).
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel up to 50–60% within the assigned territory to maintain high-frequency, face-to-face contact with dealers.
