Senior/Principal System Safety Engineer

We're looking for Safety Engineers at all levels to join our growing team, supporting a diverse portfolio of cutting-edge defence and safety-critical programmes. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll lead safety assessments, influence design decisions, and ensure complex systems are demonstrably safe, reliable and compliant throughout their lifecycle.

What you'll do

  • Lead safety engineering activities across the full project lifecycle.
  • Develop key Safety Artifacts such as Safety Cases, Safety Plans and Hazard Logs.
  • Conduct HAZID (HAzard IDentification) and risk assessment workshops using techniques such as HAZOPs, STPA and SWIFT.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative safety techniques including FHA, FMECA, FTA, ETA and Bow-Tie analysis.
  • Provide robust safety evidence and assurance to customers and stakeholders.
  • Support multiple projects across a range of innovative technologies and platforms.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in Functional or System Safety within a safety-critical environment.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and safety case development.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Understanding of standards and regulations such as DEF STAN 00-55/56, IEC 61508 or MIL-STD-882E.
  • Ability to assess risk, influence design decisions and solve complex engineering challenges.

Desirable

  • Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, Marine, Automotive or other safety-critical industry experience.
  • Experience in related disciplines such as RAM, Human Factors or EcoDesign.
  • Knowledge of UK MoD, MAA, CAA or Maritime regulatory environments.
