The Company:

PDMS (Professional Data Management Services) is a company within the Volaris Group (Constellation Software Inc.) focused on delivering software solutions. PDMS typically works across product development, engineering, analysis, design, project management, support and hosting, delivering a wide range of solutions across maritime, manufacturing, skills and public sector in the Isle of Man, UK and globally.

The Position

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer to join our team. This role requires a highly independent and technically capable professional who can support and maintain business-critical applications, investigate and resolve complex production issues, and work directly with customers when required.

The ideal candidate will have strong Linux administration experience, the ability to understand and troubleshoot applications (primarily but not exclusively Ruby based), and the confidence to make sound technical decisions with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate will also have experience of working with a wide range of programming languages and technologies across operating systems and possess the ability to apply solid software engineering, debugging and investigative principles across unfamiliar systems with the ability to learn quickly and deliver results in a fast-moving environment.

The role also requires familiarity with modern AI-assisted development, the ability to troubleshoot system workflows, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to quality through automated testing and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve application, infrastructure, and production-related issues.
• Investigate application behavior by reviewing and stepping through Ruby code to identify root causes and potential defects.
• Perform production support activities, including data analysis, validation, and carry out authorized, controlled data updates in line with agreed procedures.
• Work directly with customers to understand issues, provide technical guidance, and communicate resolutions effectively.
• Take ownership of incidents and drive them through to resolution with minimal supervision.
• Make informed technical and operational decisions while balancing business impact, risk, and urgency.
• Collaborate with development teams to identify recurring issues and implement long-term solutions.
• Leverage AI-powered tools and workflows to improve troubleshooting, analysis, productivity, and operational efficiency.
• Contribute to improving code quality, operational processes, documentation, and system reliability.
• Develop, maintain, and improve clear technical and operational documentation to support effective knowledge sharing, troubleshooting, and ongoing system support.
• Support and advocate for automated testing practices, including validation of fixes and regression prevention.
• Participate in system maintenance, deployments, upgrades, and operational improvement initiatives.
• Assist in establishing and improving production support, monitoring, and data governance practices.

Technical Skills

• 5+ years of experience in application support, software engineering, technical operations, or a related role.
• Strong hands-on experience working in Linux environments.
• Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot Ruby applications, even if Ruby is not the candidate's primary development language.
• Experience diagnosing complex application and production issues across multiple system layers.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
• Strong customer-facing communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience handling production support responsibilities in business-critical environments.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools and workflows for development, troubleshooting, documentation, and productivity improvements.
• Strong understanding of software quality principles and automated testing best practices.
• Experience working with databases and executing data analysis and controlled data updates.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.

• Experience working in enterprise or product-based environments is preferred.
