About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to support the development and delivery of autonomous consumer robotics products.

This role is focused on working closely with ODM/JDM development partners throughout the product lifecycle, driving technical discussions, system-level problem solving, issue investigation, performance optimization, quality improvements, and successful product launches.

You will serve as a key technical interface between Dyson and external development partners, helping ensure product requirements are delivered with high quality, reliability, and performance.

Note: The level of hands-on software design and development will vary depending on project requirements. While opportunities may exist to contribute to feature design and software implementation, the primary focus is on technical leadership, system engineering, partner collaboration, and product delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Partner Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with ODM/JDM partners throughout product development, validation, and launch phases.
  • Review software designs, technical proposals, and implementation plans from development partners.
  • Drive technical discussions, requirement clarification, risk assessments, and issue resolution.
  • Support integration, validation, and production readiness activities.
  • Track and drive closure of technical issues impacting product quality, performance, reliability, or schedule.

System Engineering & Problem Solving

  • Investigate and resolve complex system-level issues involving software, hardware, sensors, algorithms, and system integration.
  • Perform structured root-cause analysis using data, testing, debugging, and validation techniques.
  • Drive improvements in system reliability, robustness, performance, and maintainability.
  • Support field issue investigations and corrective actions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of products, processes, and engineering practices.

Robotics Behaviours & Autonomy

  • Work with internal teams and development partners to define, implement, and optimize autonomous robot behaviours.
  • Review and validate solutions related to navigation, localization, obstacle avoidance, sensing, planning, and control.
  • Analyze robot performance in real-world environments and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in technical reviews and system design discussions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with software, hardware, perception, QA, test, product, and operations teams.
  • Support project planning, issue management, and technical decision-making.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support across multiple projects.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous systems, embedded systems, or software engineering.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Experience with Linux development, software debugging, system integration, and software architecture.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.

Robotics Experience

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Robotics software development
  • Mobile robots or autonomous systems
  • Navigation and localization
  • SLAM and sensor fusion
  • Robot control systems
  • Behaviour Trees or State Machines
  • ROS / ROS2

System Engineering

  • Strong system-thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience working across software, hardware, sensors, and algorithms to resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to balance performance, quality, cost, schedule, and business requirements.
  • Experience working with ODM/JDM partners, suppliers, or external development teams is highly desirable.

Perception & AI

  • Basic understanding of robotics perception, computer vision, sensors, and machine learning concepts.

Communication

  • Strong English reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with global engineering teams.
  • Basic spoken English for technical discussions and project reviews.
