As a Senior Robotic Controls Engineer supporting our Mako product lines, you will join a highly specialized robotics team focused on advancing next-generation robotic platform technologies. This is a hands-on, lab-based role where you will work directly with robotic systems and contribute to algorithm development, modeling, simulation, software implementation, testing, and platform acceleration activities.
This role is on-site in Weston, Florida.
What You Will Do- Design, develop, and optimize robotic control algorithms for advanced robotic-assisted surgical platform functionality.
- Develop, model, simulate, and validate robotic control concepts using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
- Create and evaluate kinematic and dynamic models to support robotic arm performance, accuracy, safety, and reliability.
- Translate control algorithms from concept and simulation into platform-ready solutions, working independently or in partnership with controls software engineers.
- Support development of robotic features by understanding workflow, safety, and system-level requirements.
- Conduct algorithm validation, developer-level testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis to ensure controls perform as intended.
- Work hands-on with robotic hardware, sensors, actuators, motors, controllers, and related technologies in a lab environment.
- Partner cross-functionally with R&D, software, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and clinical stakeholders to support product development and test activities.
- Support development and maintenance of robotic manufacturing test systems as needed.
- Contribute to design reviews, technical documentation, process improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline is required.
- 2+ years of related experience is required.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls, or related discipline.
- Experience or strong academic/project background in robotics, mechatronics, control systems, or related technologies.
- Working knowledge of robotic controls, including control algorithm development, modeling, simulation, or validation.
- Experience with robotic modeling concepts, including kinematics and/or dynamics.
- Experience using modeling, simulation, or analysis tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Octave, Python, or similar.
- Familiarity with robotic system components such as sensors, actuators, motors, controllers, power systems, or related hardware.
- Ability to work hands-on with robotic systems in a lab-based, on-site environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across hardware, software, and system-level interactions.
- Experience with advanced control techniques for robotic, haptic, motion control, or electromechanical systems.
- Experience with real-time programming or embedded software development in C/C++.
- Experience translating algorithms from simulation into software running on a physical robotic platform.
- Experience with surgical robotics, medical robotics, industrial robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, automotive, defense, or other complex robotic/electromechanical systems.
- Experience with algorithm validation, formal verification, validation testing, or software development lifecycle activities.
- Experience working in a regulated environment, such as medical device, aerospace, automotive, or defense.
