Risk Manager Job Description
Role Summary
The Senior Risk Manager / Risk Manager is a key member of the Local Risk Management team within the broader Risk Function. This role supports the Head of Risk in driving the implementation of, and compliance with, the Apex Risk Management Framework and relevant Governance models across the Middle East region, including UAE, Israel, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Risk in the provision of risk management support and expertise to all of the business lines operating in the jurisdiction
- Provide, maintain and implement proportionate Risk Management & Business Continuity Frameworks, to ensure consistent, efficient execution while minimizing business impact
- Support the Head of risk in overseeing, challenging and supporting the business to ensure risks are properly identified, assessed and managed within risk appetite
- Proactively promote and embed the management of risk by identifying, assessing and reporting both risk and controls (adequacy and effectiveness) and through the escalation of relevant information of risk matters via agreed governance structure such as Local Risk & Audit Committees (LARC) and reporting to local Boards
- Role model and promote a strong risk culture across your jurisdiction(s)
- Work with local stakeholders to implement the Risk Management Framework and required governance models in a proportionate and pragmatic manner, ensuring appropriate escalations are made where required
- Support the Client Acceptance Process, identifying and raising potential risks and supporting the Business along with attendance and contribution as agreed with the Head of Risk to the Business Review Committee. Support with the review of client acceptance submissions in line with Apex Group policies, risk appetite, and local laws.
- Maintain oversight and escalation of incidents in line with the Incident Management policy, assist with the identification of root cause analysis and drive a best in class risk culture. Assist with monitoring and management of incidents (issues, breaches, errors, complaints, incidents), drive timeliness, completeness and quality improvement, and provide support to the First Line of Defence.
- Actively contribute to Business Risk Assessments / trigger assessments and collaborate with the Risk Framework team as agreed with the Head of Risk
- Work with all areas of the business to drive an improved and robust control environment locally
- Provide oversight of Business Continuity plans and support the Head of Risk in ensuring required testing is completed annually and relevant reports are submitted to the LARC/Boards
- Support the Head of Risk with the delivery of appropriate and timely training and risk awareness initiatives as required
- Support the Head of Risk with the production and delivery of accurate and timely risk reporting to appropriate Boards and/or Audit and Risk Committees and other relevant stakeholders on a regular basis at both a local and Group level
- Support with policy & procedure development and implementation.
- Support local management with local risk metrics and tolerances, providing the platform for data-driven and efficient local risk assessment and jurisdictional reporting
- Proactively engage and support stakeholders to achieve business growth and control environment improvements.
- Drive a proactive risk and control culture, embedding the three lines of defence model and accountabilities.
- Demonstrate accountability in your role by applying a solution-focused approach to challenges and change
- Deliver on KPIs and priorities for the Risk function within agreed timelines, ensuring alignment with jurisdictional and Group-level objectives.
- Undertake ad-hoc duties and projects as directed by the Head of Risk to support evolving business and regulatory needs.
Key Requirements
- Experience of Risk Management in the financial services industry – track record in fund management or fund administration sectors will be considered an advantage
- Experience working in both First and Second lines of defense
- Understanding of Risk Frameworks in a Financial Services context
- Familiarity with risk appetite statements, risk registers and KRI’s
- Ability to interpret data and identify risk trends
- Strong analytical and communication skills and high attention to detail
- Distinguish yourself by your organization skills, dynamism and motivation to learn and evolve
- Relevant Risk Management qualification(s) would be an advantage
