The Senior Research Scientist is responsible for developing and validating molecular testing for Cepheid products, ensuring their accuracy and reliability. This includes designing experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in product commercialization, and expert knowledge of molecular techniques (such as nucleic acid extraction and real time PCR). As a member of the R&D team you will contribute with your knowledge and skills to junior team members and other functions within the organization. Furthermore, you have a good ability to analyze technical data and review/write texts and reports. You find it easy to collaborate and are keen to achieve results in your work.

This position is part of the Assay R&D team and will be in Solna, Sweden. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Evaluate, test, and optimize real time PCR and RT-PCR assay procedures and assay prototypes based on design of experiments and design input requirements.
• Apply sophisticated analytical problem-solving skills to reagent and system integration issues to identify critical performance factors for assay development
• Design, plan and execute experiments to meet project and company objectives
• Work both independently and in a team environment
• Analyze data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel, Minitab or JMP
• Communicate data in different forums on a regular basis
• Work in a BSL3 environment

The role also includes participating in project planning, decision-making and problem solving.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• BSc or MSc in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology) with 5+ years of related work experience within medical device (preferred), biotech, or pharmaceutical
• Must have strong background in molecular biology methods such as PCR and real-time PCR, experimental design, data analysis and statistical techniques
• Experience of working in a regulated business (ISO and/or GMP)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Good ability to structure, organize and prioritize lab work and to maintain detailed experimental records
• Thorough understanding and adherence to biosafety protocols and guidelines, ensuring a safe and compliant laboratory environment for handling biological materials and hazardous substances

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Experience in the development of medical technology and/or pharmaceutical products (knowledge of US and/or CE-IVD medical technology regulations)
• Proficiency in assay optimization and validation: Understanding how to optimize and validate assays for accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity
