About Generate:Biomedicines
Generate:Biomedicines is a new kind of therapeutics company – existing at the intersection of machine learning, biological engineering, and medicine – pioneering Generative Biology™ to create breakthrough medicines where novel therapeutics are computationally generated, instead of being discovered. The Company has built a machine learning-powered biomedicines platform with the potential to generate new drugs across a wide range of biologic modalities. This platform represents a potentially fundamental shift in what is possible in the field of biotherapeutic development.
We pursue this audacious vision because we believe in the unique and revolutionary power of generative biology to radically transform the lives of billions, with an outsized opportunity for patients in need. We are seeking collaborative, relentless problem solvers that share our passion for impact to join us!
Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received nearly $700 million in funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with over 300 employees.
The Role:
Generate:Biomedicines is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join the Cancer Biology group in the growing Therapeutic Area Research department. This role will support the advancement of Generate:Biomedicines’ drug discovery programs across our oncology pipeline. The candidate will work as a member of cross-functional teams involved in identifying and validating targets, developing in vitro and ex vivo assays, screening biologics and generating data to advance novel therapeutics into the clinic. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, creative, well-organized, and highly motivated individual who can focus and work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and matrixed environment. This position provides an opportunity to develop AI-based novel biologics in a dynamic biotech setting.
Here's how you will contribute:
- Independently design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments, analyze data to enhance our understanding on targets of interest
- Perform cell-based, biochemical, and immunological assays to investigate potential therapeutic candidates
- Conduct in vitro screening in high-throughput or medium-throughput assays to identify lead candidates
- Support assay development and generate genetically engineered cell lines as required to accomplish overall study goals
- Maintain scientific rigor during experimentation, and data analysis
- Carefully and comprehensively record experimental results in electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)
- Present research plan, and experimental findings within the team and to broader scientific groups
- Collaborate with both internal research teams and external groups and collectively work to deliver against the stringent timelines
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- MS degree in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology or related field and 2 years of relevant scientific experience in a biotech/pharma setting; or a BS degree in a scientific field of study and 4 years of related experience; or 7 years of related experience.
- Hands-on experience working with mammalian primary and established cell culture (maintenance, engineering cells using viral or non-viral methods)
- Demonstrated experience working with in vitro cell-based assays including but not limited to cell proliferation, internalization, cell cytotoxicity, apoptosis, functional assessment of cellular parameters in real-time (IncuCyte) using mammalian cell lines, co-culture models, or primary cells
- Demonstrated experience working with immunological techniques including multi-parameter flow cytometry and/or immunoassays such as ELISA or Luminex, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence staining
- Demonstrated ability to design, execute and troubleshoot experiments, analyze and interpret data, and report experimental findings
- Proficiency in data analysis using FlowJo, and GraphPad Prism software is required
- Excellent organization, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, and matrixed team-oriented environment
- In vivo mouse pharmacology study experience is a plus, but not required
- Experience working with protein/antibody-based therapeutics in a high throughput manner or using lab automation is a plus
Who Will Love This Job:
If you are a creative, curious, and resourceful individual with biology background who loves to solve intriguing biological problems, enjoys hands-on bench work and the challenge of working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, you will excel in this position. Those who are driven by the opportunity to develop next-generation biologic therapeutics using AI and contribute to groundbreaking projects will find immense satisfaction in the impact their work has on the future of biomedicines. This role is ideal for collaborative problem solvers who are excited by the potential to radically transform patient lives through innovative science.
