As part of our Engineering team, you would analyze data, draft implementation plans for production process optimization. Seeking out ways to maximize efficiencies by eliminating the waste of valuable resources that directly impact our overall operating costs. You are instrumental to the manufacturing of Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan’s Famous, and our other product brands, to meet the needs of our customers and consumers.

The Sr. Manager, Reliability Engineering is responsible for implementing and guiding efforts across the organization to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment and processes that could adversely affect facility operations. This individual will develop, improve, coach, teach and train reliability program strategies and elements as well as champion the transfer and implementation of best practices. The Sr. Manager, Reliability Engineering will have a proven background in protein facility equipment/processes and the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) processes required to sustain a high performing maintenance equipment reliability department. the ideal candidate will have a proven history of promoting and displaying commitment toward the reliability engineering processes and continually review procedures and best practices for potential improvements. This knowledge and experience will include facility level execution and progressive leadership; enabling the effective leadership and influence required to improve an M&E organization; including directing lower-level managers & engineers, effectively working with peers, and influencing the optimal reliability decisions by facility and operations management.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and establishes corporate perspective with facility reliability personnel and across functional departments to coordinate and administer standardized maintenance and reliability strategies for existing and new equipment programs.

  • Provide technical and professional leadership by developing, planning, and implementing maintenance technologies and other reliability improvements.

  • Develop strategies, establishment, coaching, teaching and training facility reliability personnel on Key Performance Indicators.

  • Lead the evaluation and identification of gaps & improvement opportunities with the maintenance reliability process at multiple facility.

  • Ensure assigned facility execute the standard M&R budget/plan/execution process and address gaps as required

  • Develop a culture of improvement within M&E departments; that routinely researches, identifies, & proposes cost savings opportunities and then effectively organizes, coaches, teaches and trains on the execution on those opportunities.

  • Participate in the development of programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.

  • Develop assessment process to ensure maintenance programs, policies and procedures remain up to date for continued equipment and process regulatory reliability.

  • Refine and improve the Engineering Excellence assessment process to ensure it stays relevant, continually improves, and remains a priority for M&E members.

  • Ensure M&R capital/expense plans are properly supporting and reflecting R&M budget management.

  • Guide the development and documentation of standard “best in class” equipment reliability for Smithfield equipment and processes.

  • Coordinate and lead across the organization a common approach to executing a strong routine M&E process thru effective communications and shared mission with the Production Engineering & Engineering Services Teams.

  • Prioritize, guide and participate as needed in; equipment reliability comparison tests, FAT’s/SAT’s for new equipment, and research of new equipment reliability opportunities.

  • Prioritize, guide and participate in the development and execution of facilities M&R Budgeted development.

  • Prioritize, guide and participate as needed in effective execution of facility utilities and process discipline for managing/maintaining those assets thru routine interaction with the central Infrastructure Engineering group.

  • Prioritize and ensure the proper level and quality of maintenance training, documentation and SOPs are in place and being executed.

  • Using data extract and compile the business case, communicate and obtain support/resources to solve equipment and process downtime.

  • Leadership role in aligning reliability aspects with Operations, Safety, and Quality Assurance stakeholders to improve the efficiency, output, quality of products and safety of equipment and process.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or related field and 8+ years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry, preferred.

  • Minimum of 5+ year experience in a facility maintenance Supervisor, Superintendent or Engineer management role.

  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.

  • Proficient in SAP and CMMS preferred

  • Ability to communicate technical ideas and concepts effectively

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Suite products.

  • proficient in utilizing autocad for design, fit, form and purpose along with presentations

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning and adaptability.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Ability to execute independently of direction for M&E related processes and projects.

  • Travel is required with extended overnight stays.

  • Must be able to travel 75% of the time.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
