The Sr. Regional Engineering Manager will develop operational strategies and executional excellence. Provides technical guidance and ensures sound engineering procedures, effective upkeep of facilities & equipment, and maintains organizational standards. Develops strategy and plans to address the predominate M&E challenges at the assigned locations including the underlying causes of those challenges.
Reviews the plants M&E organizational structure relative to standard, as well as the skill/knowledge level within the existing structure; then guides the required people development process to close gaps. Presents strong leadership in executing cross functional teamwork and developing mutual trust and credibility.
Will have a well-developed understanding of meat plant equipment/processes and the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) processes required to sustain a high performing production operation. This knowledge and experience enable the effective leadership and influence required to improve an M&E organization within a plant team; including directing lower-level engineers, effectively working with peers, and influencing the optimal technical decisions by plant management.
Core Responsibilities

• Directly responsible for leadership of engineering resources across the organization and in assigned plants to ensure optimal plant performance. Covers Project Engineering team members and projects across multiple facilities.
• Manage direct reports from a variety of Engineering disciplines (i.e. Reliability, Project, etc.)
• Manage Annual Capital budget up to $50mm.
• Liaises with Plant Operations and Maintenance leadership to identify areas of opportunities and strategies to improve operational performance using both internal and external resources.
• Provide clarity in engineering standards, drive performance based on process, and scheduling of resources.
• Provide technical and professional leadership by developing, planning, and implementing production technologies and other technical improvements
• Aid in evaluating new business and line extensions
• Lead the evaluation and identification of gaps & improvement opportunities with the M&E process at multiple plants
• Ensure assigned plants execute the standard M&R budget/plan/execution process and address gaps as required
• Ensures the proper availability of expertise in complex plant equipment & troubleshooting capability to effectively manage major outage situations
• Develop a culture of improvement within M&E departments; that routinely researches, identifies, & proposes cost savings opportunities and then effectively organizes and executes on those opportunities
• Participate in the development of programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements
• Develop an assessment process to ensure M&E programs, policies and procedures remain up-to-date for Federal, State, and Local engineering codes and regulations
• Refine and improve the Engineering Excellence assessment process to ensure it stays relevant, continually improves, and remains a priority for M&E members.
• Ensure priority projects and capital/expense plans are managed and key projects are properly prioritized and resourced.
• Prioritize, guide, and participate as needed in; equipment comparison tests, FAT’s/SAT’s for new equipment, equipment and facilities master plans, Capital/Expense Budget plans and research of new equipment opportunities
• Prioritize, guide, and participate as needed in effective execution of plant utilities and process discipline for managing/maintaining those assets thru routine interaction with the Infrastructure Group.
• Ensure the proper level and quality of M&E training, documentation and SOPs are in place and being executed
• Using data extract and compile the business case, communicate and obtain support/resources to solve complex problems or advance major opportunities
• Coordinate resources and alignment as needed for significant quality issues including aligning cross-functional teams to resolve issue and transfer that learning across the organization
• Leads the resources to ensure company Quality, Food Safety & Safety Systems are executed in all engineering activities including; equipment/process design, operation, changes/improvements, and repair/maintenance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field and 8 year’s related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
• 2+ years’ demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required
• Knowledge of different pork products and the Meat Industry, preferred.
• Manufacturing experience in a union environment, required
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Word, and SAP.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats.
• Written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
• Ability to communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience effectively.
• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
• Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Must be able to travel 75% of the time.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of their team.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Responsibilities include supporting the interviewing and hiring of skilled trade employees and the training of these employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
