As the advanced research & development (ARD) systems engineer, you will participate in next generation lunar transportation, infrastructure, and resource utilization system architecture creation from initial concept to system preliminary design level.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team executing projects with inputs coming from CTO/business/finance, delivering not only the designs but also cost/schedule estimations. You will work closely with the engineering teams in Japan, EU, and US, and you will contribute to the company’s R&D direction set by the CTO team.
The position global, but it is based in Tokyo and reports to the Advanced R&D group Manager (CTO Group).

Key responsibilities
- You will perform systemic analysis of landers/rovers/orbiters/etc in the context of lunar transportation and cislunar ecosystem development.
- You will start from modeling the spacecraft performance, its subsystems, the injection conditions, its trajectory, etc. as required, to generate and compare different KPIs to optimize designs.
- You will also participate in the implementation of selected R&D projects, either for technology demonstration projects or for servicing customers.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Space Systems, or Software Engineering, or an equivalent Engineering or Applied Physics degree.
- Advanced understanding of orbital mechanics Orbit determination theory.
- Knowledge of Mission Analysis libraries and tools (GMAT, SPICE, STK or similar tools).
- Experience with Python/matlab or equivalent
- Ability to prioritize tasks in consultation with a range of stakeholders.
- Japanese Business level and above
Preferred qualification (depending on the field of expertise)
- 5+ years of work experience in mission design, flight dynamics Monte Carlo numerical simulation
- Experience designing guidance laws for spacecraft.
- Orbit determination analysis with ODTK, Orekit, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with CR3BP, lambert problem, etc.
- Familiarity with Git, Docker, CI/CD
- Team and/or software project management experience
