Senior R&D Engineer (Project Scientist)

Position Summary
- The R&D Engineer role will support the internal and government funded research projects in the aera of design and development of electrolyzer membrane electrode assembly (MEA), stack and associated components. The occupant of this role will be actively involved in the electrolyzer MEA fabrication, electrolyzer stack build, test, and data analysis. The role requires fluent data analysis ability and hand-on experience in a lab environment. Knowledge of fuel cells, electrolyzers or electrochemistry is desirable.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Work on internal and government funded research projects in the design, development, evaluation and analysis of electrode, membrane, gasket and membrane and electrode assembly (MEA).
- Construction and operation of electrolyzers and related sub-assemblies.
- Critically evaluates, documents, and presents analytical results to the team.
- Perform regular maintenance of the research lab.
- Evaluate and apply standard technical principles and procedures while using independent judgment and utilize working knowledge of key regulatory programs.
- Flexibility and the ability to meet strict requirements to tight schedules.
- Work professionally and cooperatively in a cross-functional team environment with a focus upon maximizing system performance and customer satisfaction.
- Represent Plug Power professionally in all interactions; support the organization's philosophy of providing high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Adheres to safety, health, and environmental procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualification
- Master’s degree with three years of fuel cell or electrolyzer MEA industry working experience or Ph.D. degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or other STEM field of study required.
- Proficiency in the use of MS Excel and Word is required.
- Chemical and catalyst synthesis experiences are preferred.
- Experience with polymer membrane is preferred.
- R&D Experience with fuel cell or water electrolyzer is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Being able to finish tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Estimated Base Salary Range:
$92,300.00 - $138,400.00
