Reporting to the Director of CORE Quality the incumbent will provide overall leadership to ensure all key Core Integrated objectives are being achieved for NPD & NPI design engineering activities. This role will be responsible for ensuring the effective and timely execution of Quality deliverables across the entire product life cycle on new programs as well as sustaining existing products.  The position will support the NPD process in ensuring that all lessons learned, and best practices are applied for new projects to achieve five star customer product star ratings. The role will also provide support in FMEA activities to help to identify risks. The Sr. manager will lead project risk assessment with a clear focus on design, quality, reliability, cost, and the consumer’s experience. This position will also lead the governance for the assessment of design at NPD and NPI stages and will work closely with the departmental heads to ensure successful and profitable product outcomes. This position will support continual improvement of existing programs to establish an effective and proactive quality culture.

Responsibilities 

Provide support to the Engineering teams for the design, development and manufacture for Shark branded products.

The candidate will be capable to Identify and understand risk and opportunities for improvement through multiple workstreams such as FMEA & Project risk assessment reviews, working closely with other departments.

As part of the FMEA process the candidate is to ensure that the most cost-effective way is sought to achieve the relevant primary functions whilst ensuring quality / reliability.

The incumbent will be able to determine risk and to recognize operational issues / challenges and to recommend pragmatic solutions in line with the departmental key objectives.

The candidate will ensure that projects are managed effectively to completion, on-time, within budget to the desired quality.

The Incumbent will partner closely with departmental leaders to ensure alignment on the relevant key objectives as well as helping to determine customer expectations.

The candidate will have effective presentation and interpersonal skills meeting the needs of all levels within the organization up to and including the executive management team.


The incumbent will also be capable in the following: -

  • Provide leadership for NPD / NPI Quality activities
  • Support in defining product specification and hardware specification
  • Lead activities around facilitation of FMEA for products and process
  • Undertake Value Analysis and Value Engineering reviews
  • Lead cross-functional activities in the US and China ensuring that root-cause is determined by applying the 5Y process and manage solutions for improvement
  • Undertake product benchmarking and the establishment of performance metrics and testing methods
  • Coordinate and communicate learnings associated with product and process analysis to NPD & NPI Engineering & Quality teams and to drive continual improvement
  • Ensure that lessons learned are applied for design and process
  • Present at the Executive reviews the status of projects through project risk assessments, NPD Quality & Manufacturing Engineering reviews
  • Manage field returns and other key quality metrics to assess product and process performance in his/her area to continually drive product quality improvements effectively and in a timely manner
  • Provide a clear CORE POV in phase gate and design reviews to assess production readiness in terms of quality, reliability and manufacturability

Qualifications / Requirements

The successful candidate will have proven manufacturing / quality leadership experience and the ability to deliver results in larger matrix organizations.

Required experience should include at least 4 of the following

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or associated Quality Assurance / Management qualification
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality role associated with consumer products, medical devices, electronics, or similar industries
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supervising engineering and/or testing personnel
  • Demonstrated experience with traditional quality analytical methods (Weibull, FMEA, SPC, APQP, MSA, Cpk)
  • Will have demonstrated the ability in a previous company and successfully executed a similar program of works
  • Experienced across numerous roles within Design & Development, Quality Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering & Operations
  • Ability to lead / manage multiple initiatives simultaneously is vital to success in this role
  • Must be able to operate comfortably in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities
  • History of applying Value Analysis & Value Engineering
  • In depth knowledge and proven ability to steer the product life cycle process
  • Highly skilled with defect avoidance methodologies such as poke yoke, DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE
