Responsibilities:
- Lead quality engineering efforts across multiple projects and delivery teams spanning web, API, mobile, and device domains.
- Define and implement test strategies aligned with project requirements, risk profiles, and delivery timelines. Design, build, and maintain robust automated testing solutions — including UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests across web and device platforms.
- Perform hands-on validation of web applications, mobile apps (Android/iOS), and physical devices including body-worn cameras and network-connected evidence collection hardware.
- Validate end-to-end data flows from device capture through mobile applications, cloud services, and web portals to final storage and retrieval.
- Validate interoperability between hardware devices, mobile applications, web interfaces, and cloud-based services.
- Ensure quality is embedded early and consistently throughout the SDLC — including testability reviews, shift-left practices, and quality gates. Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous delivery initiatives across web and device release streams.
- Lead non-functional testing strategy for owned areas — defining performance benchmarks, accessibility compliance targets, reliability SLOs, and security test coverage — in addition to overseeing functional, regression, and system testing. Test under real-world conditions including unreliable networks, intermittent connectivity, field environments, and cross-browser/cross-device compatibility.
- Analyze defects, identify root causes, and drive corrective and preventive actions across the stack. Collaborate with software engineers, firmware engineers, architects, product owners, DevOps, field operations, and support to improve testability and system reliability.
- Mentor and guide junior quality engineers and promote best practices across teams.
- Provide clear, accurate reporting on quality status, risks, and release readiness to stakeholders.
- Contribute to organizational quality standards, test processes, and tooling strategy.
- Significant professional experience in software quality engineering or test automation across web and/or device platforms.
- Strong hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress for web; Appium for mobile).
- Proficiency in testing APIs, distributed systems, and data-driven applications.
- Experience testing web applications across browsers, responsive layouts, and accessibility requirements.
- Experience testing physical devices, mobile operating systems, or device firmware in production-like environments.
- Experience leading non-functional testing efforts — including performance/load testing, accessibility (WCAG) compliance programs, and security validation — from strategy through execution and reporting.
- Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and modern SDLC practices.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to design test strategies that span multiple layers — UI, API, integration, and system level. Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in regulated, high-reliability environments.
- Experience working in an agile/Scrum environment as part of a cross-functional engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Jira, Testmo, Postman, and other test management and API testing tools.
- Experience testing Android and iOS devices, body-worn cameras, sensors, or other network-connected hardware.
- Background in validating data capture, transmission, and chain-of-custody workflows for evidence or regulated data.
- Experience testing under unreliable network conditions, intermittent connectivity, and field scenarios.
- Experience with performance and load testing tools and methodologies for web applications and APIs.
- Cloud platform experience (especially AWS) — testing services deployed on ECS, Lambda, S3, or similar.
- Experience with accessibility testing (WCAG compliance) for web applications.
- Experience supporting government or enterprise software systems with compliance requirements.
- Experience contributing to or defining organizational quality standards and test processes.
- Relevant certifications (ISTQB or similar).
