The Quality Engineer III collaborates with cross-functional teams to keep product flowing successfully and is responsible for providing support to quality engineering improvement projects and interfaces with teams consisting of engineering, manufacturing operations, supplier quality and service engineering to assure ongoing product compliance and control. This role will be responsible for responding with a sense of urgency to customer inquiries, executing inspection plans, quarantine and disposition of product.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote a continuous improvement environment by providing leadership and direction for facility teams

  • Guide Generac cross functional personnel within the framework of Corporate Quality Standards and objectives

  • Lead the resolution of warranty and quality issues

  • Analyze component failure rates and provide Manufacturing, Supplier Quality and Engineering with feedback

  • Analyze data, identify trends and facilitate cross functional 8D or A3 improvement projects                                                        

  • Direct the overall execution of internal product audits and nonconformance resolution.

  • Lead problem solving at the manufacturing site

  • Support New Product Introduction and manage the qualification of manufacturing through the APQP process

  • Conduct and manage audits/assessments of processes and quality systems (ISO, internal audit, etc)

  • Gather and analyze product data and use the data to lead improvement initiatives to reduce the potential for defects

  • Provide direction and assistance to the Quality & Manufacturing team at Generac manufacturing sites for prioritizing actions and tasks of quality initiatives

  • Ensure test inspection integrity (MSA/ GR&R)

  • Act as SAP Super User within functional area as assigned

  • Create and deploy standard Generac tools, methodologies and standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • 5 years’ experience working in Quality in a manufacturing environment utilizing APQP (Control plan & PFEMA)

  • Experience using continuous improvement tool set (8D, A3, PDCA, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP procedures, and ISO 9001

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills

  • Ability to lead, collaborate and work with teams to drive improvements

  • Ability to successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of the application and interpretation of manufacturing quality metrics

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and SAP business systems

  • Knowledge of Lean principles & improvements

  • Ability to implement lean principles and improvements

  • Ability to analyze component failure rates and provide Manufacturing, Supplier Quality and Engineering with feedback

  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends and facilitate cross functional A3 improvement projects

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Certified Quality Engineer or Technician

  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Certified Quality Auditor

  • Previous Experience using SAP or equivalent ERP

  • QMS & Auditing Experience

  • Power-Bi experience

  • Customer facing experience

  • Experience with new product design and development and product lifecycle

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.  The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
