About the Team and Role
The Developer Metrics team is at the heart of our mission, focusing on measurement, optimization, and engagement to cultivate a world-class engineering culture. We are responsible for establishing the metrics and insights that define technical achievement and DevOps excellence across Citi.
This role is for a results-oriented software engineer with a passion for data and a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle. As a key contributor to the team, you will help build, enhance, and maintain the platforms that measure engineering productivity and DevOps capabilities. You will work with large datasets to extract meaningful insights that help development teams across the firm improve their practices.
This is a hands-on role where you will apply your skills in both software engineering and data analysis to solve complex challenges. You will collaborate with other Developer Engineering teams to ensure our measurement capabilities are integrated into the tools and processes used by developers every day. Your work will directly contribute to our goal of using measurement to reinforce positive behaviours and foster a collaborative, data-driven engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources into PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
- Optimize data ingestion, storage, and retrieval for performance and scalability.
- Develop GraphQL, RESTful APIs using FastAPI to serve data and integrate with internal/external systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data engineering, DevOps, product) to define requirements and deliver solutions.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and security across the pipeline.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Monitor, debug, and optimize ETL workflows and APIs in production.
- Stay updated with the latest trends in Python, ETL frameworks, and database technologies.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of professional experience in Python development.
- Strong experience in building ETL pipelines and data integration workflows.
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL (schema design, queries, performance tuning).
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB (document design, aggregation pipelines, indexing).
- Experience developing GraphQL, REST APIs using FastAPI (or Flask/Django REST Framework with willingness to switch to FastAPI).
- Solid understanding of data modeling and database best practices.
- Experience with asynchronous programming in Python.
- Familiarity with Docker and deployment on cloud environments (OpenShift/AWS/Azure/GCP) is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Redis Streams).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
