Quanex is looking for a Sr. Project Manager to join our team located in Owatonna, Minnesota or Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Senior Project Manager will lead and mentor the project management team in addition to forming cross-functional teams to drive completion of various types of projects via established timelines and budgets utilizing defined internal processes and best project management practices. Projects include new product introductions, product modifications, or productivity projects. The Sr. Project Manager will coordinate closely with all functions to ensure a positive customer experience as products are transitioned, released, or rationalized and will be measured on achieving project scope, timeline, and financials.

- Responsible for leading teams of professionals in planning, executing, and delivery of multiple high-impact projects by a set deadline to uphold business initiatives.

What Success Looks Like:
- Responsible for creating detailed project plans, leveraging Microsoft Project or similar tools, and managing projects to achieve milestones and critical path deadlines.
- Assess risks associated with projects and develop plans to mitigate those risks.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to project managers
- Conduct performance reviews and support career growth for project management team members.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance and project outcomes.
- Manage assigned projects, overseeing the work process to ensure each task is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Delegate tasks to project team members and hold team members accountable to complete.
- Partner with global and other division project leaders to develop a global Quanex NPD process or a process that all divisions will follow.
- Enhance speed to market on NPD projects, including deployment of key metrics to help facilitate and measure progress.
- Effectively escalate issues that arise during the project to help minimize project delays.
- Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with a project.
- Adjust schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for projects changes.
- Provide input into the product strategy, roadmap, and business case development.
- Partner with the operations organization to develop and execute supply chain and operations plan for new products
- Champions a culture of transparency, accountability, and collaboration across teams/stakeholders
- Facilitate communication and interaction among all functional representatives of the project team and other project stakeholders to make project decisions in accordance with the project charter.
- Establish and execute a communication plan to update stakeholders and appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project, including monthly project reviews.
- Manage multiple projects / initiatives simultaneously. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Lead post-project reviews and implement lessons learned across teams.
Your Credentials:
- Bachelor's degree in business/engineering is desired
- 10+ years of professional work experience, preferably with an emphasis in Project Management with 3 years in a senior or lead role
- Experience partnering with customers, engineering, and product team in the development and management of new and existing products
- Experience leading and mentoring other project managers
- Previous exposure to or experience working in manufacturing and sourcing
- Proven track record of leading successful product launches per established timelines, cost targets, and incremental benefit targets.
- Successful track record of problem solving, idea generation, and project execution
- Cross-functional leadership – ability to lead complex projects involving stakeholders across multiple functions and facilities
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Data analysis – ability to analyze data and recommend action based on the information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project
- Highly motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to work independently
- Understanding of project and program management principles, methods, and techniques
- Effectively facilitates team meetings which can include customer representatives
- Strong communication skills – able to communicate relevant project information across various internal/external stakeholders (including Executives)
- Understanding of manufacturing methods, processes, flows, layout, and production equipment
- Problem Analysis and Problem resolution methodology
- Strong leadership skills to help influence and motivate the team to achieve project goals
- Excellent organizational, people-management, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel domestically & internationally – up to 25% of the time
The salary range for this position is $112,000 - $140,000 with bonus potential.
