Job Description

The R&D COO Office team is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Project Manager to support driving a number of strategic projects within the COO. Our mission within the R&D COO Office is to be the operating core that enables the wider R&D Organization to execute with clarity, speed and impact. We do this through disciplined planning, aligned delivery and release, and with continuous learning/improvement. 

As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role within a team responsible for driving strategic programs, critical projects, M&A integration, and business transformation initiatives that are fundamental to the future success of our R&D endeavours. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Project Leadership and Delivery:  Lead cross-functional teams to deliver strategic initiatives. The key is to be able to drive cross-functional teams in a collaborative way to solve key challenges and implement new ways of working, processes and technology in a coordinated and outcome driven way. Responsibilities include but not limited to: managing project charters & scope; business case creation, value realisation and financial oversight and project planning/risk management. 
  • Stakeholder Management: Actively engage with key stakeholders throughout the project’s life cycle. Cultivate positive relationships, ensuring individual requirements are comprehended and addressed. Set unambiguous expectations with stakeholders regarding project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Regularly report on the project progress and its success metrics, across the organisation and to key project sponsors. An understanding of key change management approaches would be advantageous. 
  • Project Execution & Accountability: Strive for efficiency, ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes within the defined time and budget constraints. Align project results with the expected benefits outlined in the business case. Skilfully manage project scope and adeptly handle any arising changes. Proactively identify, analyse, and mitigate risks. Ability to take responsibility for project outcomes and demonstrate accountability for results.
  • Business Analysis & Process Improvement: Contribute to continuous process enhancements related to key projects. Helping to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices. Previous business analysis skills would be desirable but not essential.
  • Set Project standards: Drive project management standards and approaches across R&D, helping to upskill and create standard toolkits that the wider COO organisation can use as they deliver continuous improvement initiatives and smaller projects.

Qualifications

To excel as a Project Manager within our R&D team, possessing a positive attitude and a “can-do” mindset is crucial. We anticipate that you will think innovatively, challenging the status quo in your pursuit of continuous improvement. As a successful candidate, you should have the following:

  • A university degree or equivalent professional qualifications in project or program management.
  • Minimum five years of documented experience in project management, across multiple project contexts.
  • A working understanding of managing business cases, creating a project charter, and engaging with steering committees.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities, both verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrable leadership and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to mentor junior team members and share knowledge.
  • Experience from relevant industries and markets and proficient with customers and partners interactions.
  • Proven ability to foster active participation and collaboration in both small and large groups.
  • Comfortable working in a global, matrix organization, with an understanding of how to navigate diverse cultures and time zones.
  • Operationally focused, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on when necessary to drive complex issues towards resolution.
